Position Type: Full-Time/Two Weeks on Two Weeks off

Location: Field-Based (Traditional Territories)

Reports To: Guardian Monitor Coordinator / Environmental Team

Term: Project-Based (3-4 years)Pay: Starting at $30/hour

The Nechako partner Nations (Lheidli T’enneh, Saik’uz, Nadleh Whut’en and Stellat’en First Nations) are seeking a reliable, motivated individual to join the Nation Monitor program in support of the BC Hydro North Coast Transmission Line Project.

Job Summary

Environmental Monitors both help protect lands, waters, wildlife, culturally important areas, and community interests while supporting responsible development within traditional territories. Will be an employee of the Toonasa Ne Keyah Stewardship Department and the Stellat’en First Nation

This position is an opportunity to gain practical experience in:

- Environmental monitoring
- Indigenous stewardship and Guardianship
- Major infrastructure and construction projects
- Forestry and natural resources
- Archaeology and heritage awareness
- Renewable energy and environmental management
- A future career in stewardship, consulting, and project coordination Training will be provided to suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities: Nation Environmental Monitors may assist with:

Environmental Monitoring

- Observe construction activities
- Identify environmental concerns or risks
- Monitor water crossings, wetlands, wildlife, and sensitive areas
- Report erosion, spills, sedimentation, or disturbances

Cultural & Land Stewardship

- Support awareness and protection of:
- Traditional use areas
- Hunting and gathering locations
- Medicine sites
- Trails




- Culturally significant areas
- Heritage resources

Reporting

- Record observations using forms, photos, GPS, or tablets
- Complete daily reports
- Escalate concerns appropriately

Safety & Qualified Conduct

- Follow safety requirements
- Participate in site meetings
- Work respectfully with project teams
- Represent community values professionally

Minimum Requirements:

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and work long field days
- Willingness to complete required training
