Position: Estimator – Window Wall & Interior Glazing
Department: Estimating / Pre-Construction / Highrise Residental
Reports To: Estimating Manager / Senior Estimator
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Estimator to join our team specializing in window wall, interior glazing, glass, and architectural glazing systems. The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing project drawings and specifications, preparing accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, and preparing competitive bids for commercial and high-rise construction projects.
The ideal candidate has experience in the glazing, window wall, curtain wall, or construction industry and understands architectural drawings, specifications, materials, and construction methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
- Window wall systems
- Interior glazing
- Curtain wall and storefront systems
- Glass and glazing
- Doors and entrances
- Aluminum framing
- Mirrors and specialty glazing
- Railings and other related glazing components, where applicable
- Prepare accurate material, labour, equipment, and installation cost estimates.
- Develop detailed and competitive quotations for tender and negotiated projects.
- Obtain and compare pricing from suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and other vendors.
- Prepare requests for quotations (RFQs) and follow up to ensure pricing is received before bid deadlines.
- Analyze project drawings and identify scope requirements, exclusions, assumptions, and potential risks.
- Review specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, design conflicts, and potential change-order opportunities.
- Prepare bid summaries and cost breakdowns for management review.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing databases, and historical project information.
- Participate in tender review meetings and assist with bid strategy and value engineering.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure accurate understanding of project scope.
- Assist with post-bid follow-up, clarification requests, negotiations, and revisions.
- Support the project team during project handover by providing estimating notes, takeoffs, supplier quotations, and other relevant information.
- Maintain awareness of current material costs, labour rates, market conditions, and industry trends.
- Ensure all estimates are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years of estimating experience in glazing, window wall, curtain wall or commercial construction preferred.
- Experience with commercial, high-rise, institutional, or residential construction projects is an asset.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Understanding of glazing systems, aluminum framing, glass types, hardware, sealants, and installation methods.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with estimating/takeoff software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Planswift, AutoCAD, or similar is an asset.
- Ability to obtain and analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project and operations teams.
