About Butterfield & Robinson For more than 60 years, Butterfield & Robinson (B&R;) has been designing and delivering extraordinary active travel experiences for discerning travellers around the globe. Founded in Canada and proudly independent, B&R; has built its reputation on blending adventure with luxury, pairing the world’s most inspiring destinations with unmatched hospitality, attention to detail, and cultural immersion. With a fiercely loyal traveller base and a growing market opportunity, B&R; continues to lead the active luxury travel category with creativity, authenticity, and an irreverent spirit.

Why This Role Matters The Finance Manager is accountable for the integrity of B&R;'s financial operations. This role translates strategic direction into the systems, controls, and team that keep B&R;’s books accurate, financial insights visible, and the close deadlines on schedule.

Increasingly, the role goes beyond compliance and close. It is B&R;'s centre of gravity for finance systems: owning financial systems, our tour operations financial reporting logic, and expense management, ensuring the business runs on clean, defensible numbers, minimizing manual reconciliation and single-person knowledge.

Success in this role shows up directly in the speed and accuracy of the close, regulatory and audit readiness, and the organizational ability to spend time on strategy rather than day-to-day mechanics.

Position Overview

As Finance Manager, you lead the Finance team day to day, directly managing and developing our financial analysts. Reporting to the CFO, and supporting the management team, you own the systems and data behind our financial reporting and steward the company's financial records and internal controls.

This is not a purely compliance-focused role. Financial controls and reporting are foundational, but the real opportunity is financial insight, process optimization — including where AI and automation can help — and being a visible business partner across departments. You work closely with our core systems, including Business Central, our tour operations platform, and expense management software, and act as finance's partner to our technology team as we invest further in automation.

We want someone as comfortable spotting an efficiency gain as presenting financial results to senior management.

The ideal candidate is a designated accountant who is genuinely curious about technology and AI, thrives in a collaborative in-office environment, and brings the energy and curiosity to grow with B&R; over the long term. You are as interested in improving how the work gets done as in getting it done, and you want a seat close to the action.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight & Reporting

- Own the overall financial reporting of B&R;, including month-end and year-end entries, financial statements, and management reports.
- Steward the company's assets through robust internal controls and disciplined budget monitoring.
- Prepare departmental budgets and cash forecasts; monitor, analyze, and maintain general ledger accounts.

- Co-ordinate year-end audits with external auditors.
- Manage treasury, cash flow, and accounts payable functions.
- Maintain and improve all procedures and controls related to the company's financial accounts.
- Own trip-level cost accrual and profitability reporting, in partnership with the operations team, creating visibility into margin by trip and by segment.
- Own intercompany elimination and consolidation logic between B&R; Inc. (Canada, USD) and B&R; France (EUR).
- Maintain TICO trust reporting and reserve compliance as part of the core control environment.

Business Partnership & Strategic Contribution

- Participate in the development of and actively support the company's strategic plans.
- Monitor the financial performance of the company and communicate clearly to management by surfacing insights, risks, and opportunities proactively.
- Identify cost-saving and overhead reduction opportunities across the business.
- Serve as an engaged, visible presence across departments by building working relationships with other departments to provide meaningful financial guidance.
- Support the CFO in executing the company's financial plan, including ad hoc analysis and financial modelling.

Team Leadership & Development

- Lead and directly manage B&R;'s finance team day to day — setting priorities and workload, coaching individual analysts, and holding the team to transparent standards of accuracy and timeliness.
- Own the full people-management cycle for the team: goal setting, regular one-on-ones, performance reviews and candid feedback, attendance and vacation management, and individual development plans.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal control policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Ethical Practices and Code of Conduct as required by professional designation.
- Build the finance team's capability and bench strength, including hiring, onboarding, cross-training, and succession planning to remove single-person dependencies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement within the Finance team.

Finance Systems & Technology Ownership

- Serve as the finance team's hands-on system owner for financial data and reporting logic, administering workflows and protecting data integrity as the business evolves.
- Explore, evaluate, and help implement AI tools, automation, and financial technology that improve the accuracy, speed, and scalability of accounting processes, in alignment with the broader technology roadmap.
- Partner with B&R;'s technology function on finance's data requirements for integrations across our ERP, tour operations, and payment platforms, owning data integrity on the finance side without owning the underlying infrastructure.
- Replace manual processes such as reconciliations and revenue adjustments with documented, auditable workflows and self-serve KPI and trip-profitability dashboards for leadership.
