Role Description The Freelance Residential Renovation and 3D Designer is a contract, on-site role based in Sarnia, ON. This role involves meeting with clients and project leads to understand renovation needs, gathering measurements, and assessing site conditions. The designer will create detailed 2D plans and 3D visualizations, prepare design concepts and revisions, and collaborate with the construction team to ensure designs are practical, code-compliant, and aligned with budget and timelines.
Daily tasks include preparing design documentation for permits, coordinating with trades as needed, and refining layouts, finishes, and fixtures to support high-quality residential renovations.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in residential design tools (e.g., CAD software,
3D modeling programs such as SketchUp, Revit, or similar) and the ability to create accurate floor plans and renderings with architects and civil engineers.
- Knowledge of residential construction methods, building codes, and renovation best practices, with experience translating design concepts into buildable solutions.
- Strong space planning, layout, and interior design skills, including the selection and coordination of materials, finishes, and fixtures.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with clients, project managers, and trades; ability to present and explain design options clearly.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to on-site conditions.
- Previous experience in residential renovations, remodeling, or related design work; portfolio demonstrating relevant projects is highly beneficial.
- Post-secondary education in architectural technology, interior design, or a related field is an asset, though equivalent practical experience is also valued.
- Ability to work on-site in Sarnia, ON, including conducting site visits, measurements, and in-person design reviews as required.
