POSITION OVERVIEW The Greenhouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily crop production activities in the tomato and pepper greenhouse, directing and coordinating the work of greenhouse workers, and ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality and food safety standards. This role combines hands-on crop knowledge with team leadership, scheduling, and quality control responsibilities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision & Team Leadership

- Plan, assign, and coordinate the daily work schedule for greenhouse workers, ensuring adequate labour coverage across all sections of the tomato and pepper greenhouse.
- Directly supervise and monitor greenhouse workers performing planting, clipping, pruning, deleafing, truss clipping, lowering, de-flowering, and harvesting of tomato and pepper crops.
- Train new and existing workers on proper crop handling techniques, food safety protocols, and safe equipment operation.
- Monitor individual and crew productivity, provide coaching and corrective feedback, and evaluate worker performance.
- Enforce workplace policies, attendance standards, and code of conduct; address performance or conduct issues and escalate to management as needed.
- Communicate daily priorities, targets, and crop-specific instructions to the crew.

Crop & Production Management

- Inspect tomato and pepper plants regularly to assess crop health, growth stage, and readiness for specific tasks (pruning, deleafing, truss work, harvesting, etc.).
- Determine and communicate harvesting schedules and quality/grading standards to ensure
- Track and report crop yields, labour hours, and production.

Health, Safety & Sanitation

- Ensure the greenhouse is maintained as a clean, hygienic, and food-safe work environment at all times, in compliance with food safety and traceability requirements.
- Conduct or oversee daily safety checks and ensure workers follow safe work practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).




- Identify and correct workplace hazards; ensure incidents, injuries, or near-misses are reported and documented according to company policy.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company occupational health and safety policies.

Equipment & Facility Operations

- Oversee the safe operation of machinery and equipment by workers; ensure only trained/authorized personnel operate equipment.
- Assist in keeping the greenhouse fully operational, coordinating basic maintenance needs and reporting equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

Administrative

- Maintain accurate records related to crop activities, labour scheduling, and food safety/quality checks.
- Assist with onboarding and scheduling of seasonal or full-time greenhouse labour as required.
- Liaise between greenhouse workers and management, relaying operational needs, concerns, and progress updates.

WORKING CONDITIONS This is a fast-paced, hands-on supervisory role requiring the ability to work in all greenhouse conditions, including wet, humid, dusty, and dirty environments, with extreme heat during summer months and cold temperatures during clean-up periods. The role requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of moderate to heavy loads, while overseeing crews across a large greenhouse facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous experience in greenhouse, nursery, or agricultural crop production required; experience specifically with tomato and/or pepper crops is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a supervisory, lead hand, or team leader capacity is required.
- Working knowledge of greenhouse vegetable crop cycles and crop work is an asset.
- Robust communication skills in English, sufficient to train, instruct, and manage a diverse crew. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Punjabi is an asset.
- Physically able to perform the demands of the role as outlined above.

WORKING HOURS Monday - Saturday

40 - 60h per week

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 60.0 per week
