enCompass is seeking a Health & Safety Officer to support the continued growth of the company. This is an excellent chance for a safety professional who wants to take ownership of a COR-certified health and safety program and help take it to the next level. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening our safety culture, improving processes, supporting our field teams, and ensuring compliance across all of our operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead, develop, maintain, and continuously improve the enCompass COR-certified health and safety program.
- Conduct on-site safety inspections and audits across active project sites.
- Develop and implement pre-job hazard assessments in collaboration with Project Managers, Supervisors, and field crews.
- Review Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), site inspections, and other safety documentation.
- Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and other safety training to employees, subcontractors, and union-sourced labour.
- Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, hazards, and other safety concerns and develop appropriate reports and corrective action plans.
- Develop and maintain safe work procedures and controls for higher-risk activities, including but not limited too: energized electrical work, lockout/tagout, arc-flash hazards,
personal protective equipment, working at heights, confined spaces, mobile equipment.
- Maintain accurate safety records and track key safety performance indicators, including near misses, first aid incidents, medical aid incidents, and lost-time injuries.
- Support injury management, return-to-work activities, and workers' compensation processes as required.
- Work directly with field personnel and management to identify hazards, improve safe work practices, and implement practical safety solutions.
What We’re Looking for
- Minimum 3 year’s experience in an industrial safety role, ideally in port & terminal environments.
- CRSP, NCSO, or other recognized occupational health and safety certification.
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience managing or supporting a COR-certified safety program.
- Valid drivers license
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and deliver effective safety training.
- Comfortable with regular local travel to project sites.
- Experience with SiteDocs or similar safety management software is an asset
Location Work will be split between office and customer sites. The split will be project and time period dependent with some periods being exclusively from the office and some periods being exclusively on site.
