About The Role The Human Resources and Payroll (HR) Coordinator at Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is a pivotal position responsible for providing comprehensive support to managers and employees at the local level. This role involves managing daily HR functions related to recruitment, labour relations, and payroll processes, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with organizational policies. Reporting directly to the Director of HR and collaborating closely with the Assistant Director of HR, the HR Coordinator acts as a key point of contact for HR-related matters within the organization.

The role requires a proactive approach to managing HR initiatives, fostering positive employee relations, and ensuring efficient payroll administration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work independently in a remote and multicultural environment.

Qualifications The ideal candidate should possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, demonstrating at least three (3) years of post-secondary education or hold a management or senior management position. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in HR, recruitment, or payroll functions is required. The organization may waive certain qualifications for candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and agree to undertake a designated training plan.

Fluency in Inuktitut and at least one other official language of KI (English or French) is essential.



Knowledge of Inuit culture, experience working within a school board or unionized workplace, and strong organizational and management skills are highly valued. The candidate must be willing to travel frequently to various communities across Nunavik and demonstrate the ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Responsibilities The HR Coordinator's primary responsibilities include:

- Collaborating with centre directors to assess staffing needs, updating job postings, questionnaires, and recruitment tools in partnership with Montreal-based administration technicians.
- Managing the entire recruitment process—from advertising positions, selecting candidates, to overseeing onboarding until the end of the probationary period.
- Providing the Talent Acquisition team with relevant data on local recruitment activities for monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Offering insights and data on recruitment trends and practices at local and regional levels to support strategic planning.
- Handling criminal background checks for employees, volunteers, and contractors to ensure safety and compliance.
- Recommending improvements to recruitment processes and practices to supervisors and the Assistant Director of HR.
- Supporting employees with regard to working conditions, collective agreements, directives, retirement, and group insurance through training and individual meetings.
- Addressing employee requests or questions related to labour relations by forwarding them to the Montreal Labour Relations team and providing feedback to managers as needed.
- Participating in disciplinary investigations, work climate surveys, and grievance recordings as required.
- Engaging in Labour Relations meetings and committees to promote positive workplace relations.
- Ensuring the implementation of health and safety guidelines,



contributing to the development of safer work practices.
- Providing guidance and support regarding payroll matters, including recovery of overpayments, attendance management, and processing of related documentation.
- Addressing employee and managerial inquiries about payroll discrepancies, claims, and procedures.
- Maintaining and managing payroll files, data, and information accurately and securely.
- Contributing to HR projects and initiatives that support organizational goals.
- Executing additional tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor to support the HR function effectively.

Benefits Kativik Ilisarniliriniq offers a competitive salary package classified as Class 00-08, ranging from $104,152 to $138,867 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The organization provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes 30 days of paid vacation, up to 10 paid recuperation days, and a two-week paid holiday period. Employees gain access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), which includes telemedicine support, promoting well-being and work-life balance. Additional benefits may include a summer work schedule, a northern allowance ranging from $12,178 to $25,326, food transportation allocations, paid relocation benefits, attraction and retention bonuses between $3,000 and $9,000, and up to three round trips to and from Nunavik. Inuit beneficiaries are entitled to a housing allowance, although KI does not provide accommodation.
