Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers Ltd. (BMCE) provides civil, municipal, and structural engineering services throughout Manitoba and parts of Saskatchewan. Based in the second largest city in Manitoba, BMCE has grown to over twenty-five employees since its inception 18 years ago.
THE ROLE
Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers Ltd. is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Municipal Engineer with a sound technical background who will work on a variety of projects of varying size and complexity. You will work with the limited supervision of the Municipal Department Head to lead and mentor our team of Civil Engineers and Municipal Technologists as they maintain an elevated level of service for our clients.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
PROJECT & TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Work closely and collaboratively with your Department Head to obtain and kickstart new projects.
- Take a supervisory role with technical and support staff as well as providing guidance for Junior Engineers.
- Serve as senior project manager and clients designated contact.
- Coordinate external services with sub-contractors.
PROJECT DELIVERY
- Take an active role in engineering design.
- Prepare tender documents and supervise the awarded projects from construction phase to final certification.
- Produce project schedules and budgets, then oversee their compliance.
- Liaise and develop design work with stakeholders.
- Review and monitor progress on construction sites.
- Prepare and review technical reports.
PROFESSIONAL & CLIENT RESPONSIBILITY
- Personally take professional responsibility by applying professional seal to construction documents, and engineering reports.
- Be a part of marketing and asset management as needed.
- Prepare documentation and partner with clients to gain approvals such as an Environmental Act License, Drainage and Water Control Works License, Livestock Conditional Use, and Technical Review Committee approvals.
PROJECTS YOU’LL HELP LEAD
- Stormwater and wastewater management
- Domestic lagoons
- Subdivision design
- Drainage and grading planning (calculation and design)
- Sewer and water servicing design and replacement
- Hutterite Colony development
- Land development
- Road development (rural roads – commercial highway)
- Multi or single-family dwelling site design
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of experience in Municipal/Civil Engineering.
- Valid Class 5 license.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited Canadian university.
- Registered as a P.Eng. with a Canadian licensing organization, with the ability to receive EGM registration.
- Excellent technical writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of municipal approvals and regulations.

Pay range is based on a 40-hour work week and the applicant’s experience and qualifications. Range may be adjusted for candidates outside the expected skillset.
