Inventory Controller
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Employment Type: Full-time A leading North American manufacturing and building materials organization is seeking an Inventory Controller to oversee multi-site inventory reconciliation, valuation, financial reporting, and internal controls.
This role sits within the finance function and is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory accounting and valuation within a US GAAP and SOX-controlled environment . The position will also play a key role in standard costing, SAP/ERP processes, audit support, and continuous improvement across the manufacturing network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage inventory reconciliations, physical stock counts, general ledger and sub-ledger activities.
- Oversee standard costing processes and inventory revaluation routines.
- Maintain strong internal controls over inventory and support month-end close activities.
- Conduct balance sheet reviews and provide support for internal and external audits.
- Maintain comprehensive inventory documentation, including reconciliations, stock records, drone surveys and scale calibrations.
- Act as the finance subject matter expert for inventory-related SAP processes.
- Analyze inventory variances and provide actionable financial insights.
- Improve inventory tracking, valuation methodologies and stock management processes across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Partner with operational and finance stakeholders to improve inventory accuracy and reporting.
- Support compliance with US GAAP, SOX and relevant internal control requirements.
- Influence stakeholders across functions and drive improvements without direct authority.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation such as CPA required.
- 3+ years of financial management experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong SAP/ERP and business intelligence experience.
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP and SOX requirements.
- Solid inventory accounting, reconciliation and valuation experience.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex, multi-site environment.
- Approximately 10% travel may be required.
