As A Journeyperson Welder with Calgary Transit you will be responsible for the delivery of a variety of welding and fabrication work involving maintenance and renovations of various structures/locations, equipment parts, machinery or other related work including maintenance in shop, in the field, project scoping and estimates, documentation and entry of work completed. Primary duties include:
- Utilize a variety of tools and equipment, performing welding for all types of projects.
- Review, complete and maintain work orders.
- Maintain order, cleanliness, work output, and safe working conditions in own work area including tools, equipment and utilized products.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and work groups to ensure that defective equipment is reported promptly.
Qualifications
- Completion of some High School course including Math and English.
- A completed Journeyperson Welder certificate from the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
- A valid full Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with 6 demerits or less, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Preference will be given to individuals with experience reading blueprints.
- Experience working on heavy equipment in the Transportation industry is a strong asset.
- Previous experience in the construction trades industry will be considered an asset.
- Applicant with maintenance experience and the ability to obtain a ¿Q¿ endorsement are considered assets.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a shop environment and is subject to hazards such as arc-flashes, chemicals, fumes and gases. Pre-employment Requirements

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
