We're looking for a Junior to Intermediate Financial Controller who wants to take ownership of our day-to-day finance operations and help keep our financial processes running smoothly as we grow.
This is a hands-on role. You'll be involved in the full accounting cycle, from supplier payments and bank reconciliations to payroll, month-end closing, reporting, and financial follow-up. You'll also have the opportunity to improve our processes, tools, and workflows along the way.
? Location: Hybrid role based in Montreal. We currently work from the office 3 days per week. Being located on the island of Montreal is preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Own Day-to-Day Finance Operations
- Take ownership of the day-to-day accounting and finance activities
- Manage supplier payments and accounts payable
- Perform bank and account reconciliations
- Support the full accounting cycle
- Prepare and support month-end closing
- Manage payroll and related administrative follow-ups
- Monitor expenses, cash flow, and financial transactions
Keep the Books in Order
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Validate transactions and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation
- Ensure financial information is reliable and available when needed
- Work with external partners when required for accounting and financial matters
Improve How We Work
- Identify opportunities to simplify and improve financial processes
- Help automate repetitive tasks and workflows
- Improve our use of financial and reporting tools
- Build processes that can grow with the company
Support the Business
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Prepare financial information and indicators for management
- Support grant applications and other financial documentation
- Help leadership understand the financial side of business decisions
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Someone who takes ownership: You're comfortable managing your responsibilities independently and making sure things get done.
A detail-oriented problem solver: You notice when something doesn't add up, and you don't mind digging into the details to figure out why.
Someone who likes improving things: You don't just accept inefficient processes. You naturally look for ways to make things simpler, clearer, or more automated.
Someone comfortable with variety: In a small to medium-sized company, finance touches almost everything. You might be working on a bank reconciliation in the morning and payroll or a financial report in the afternoon.
A practical teammate: You can work independently, but you also know when to ask questions, collaborate, or bring something to the attention of the team.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Diploma or degree in accounting, finance,
or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a similar role
- Experience with the full accounting cycle, or a strong desire and ability to take ownership of it
- Experience with supplier payments, bank reconciliations, payroll, and month-end activities
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience with an ERP or accounting software
- Experience with payroll platforms such as ADP is an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting and payroll requirements
- French and English proficiency
- Comfortable working independently in a small to medium-sized company
- Located in the Montreal area and able to work from the office 3 days per week
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with Power BI or other reporting tools
- Experience in a technology, SME, or growing company
- Experience improving or automating financial processes
- Experience working with multiple entities or international operations
