Reporting to the Lab Manager, the Seed Laboratory Technician is a multi-faceted role responsible for client services, sample entry, seed planting, and other lab-related activities. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations, ensure accurate and timely testing, and provide professional service and support to clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesOccupational Health & Safety
- Follow and promote all 20/20 Seed Labs Inc. health and safety policies, procedures and protocols.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work setting and promptly report hazards, incidents and urgent situations.
- Participate in emergency response procedures and support a strong safety culture within the team.
Planting Responsibilities
- Prepare and plant samples for germination, vigour, herbicide tolerance and other seed tests, including preparation of testing media and solutions.
- Conduct advisory testing such as moisture, TKW and green seed, and accurately record results in the database
- Manage sample storage, filing and disposal while maintaining clean and organized planting and laboratory areas.
Sample Entry Responsibilities
- Receive, organize and process samples according to sample type, client, department and testing priority.
- Coordinate testing timelines and deadlines with the Lab Manager to ensure efficient turnaround.
- Complete advisory testing and accurately maintain sample and test information in the database.
Client Management & Support
- Serve as a point of contact for clients by answering inquiries, receiving samples, explaining test results and assisting with new client set-up.
- Monitor client samples and testing requirements, including recommending additional or retesting services when appropriate.
- Support other departments and company activities as required, including Sample Preparation, Planting, Shipping & Receiving, trade shows and industry events.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary degree in Biological Sciences or a related diploma, with 2–4 years of office or laboratory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the Canadian seed industry, seed legislation, testing standards, QMS requirements, seedling physiology, morphology and taxonomy.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, as part of a team and within tight turnaround deadlines.
- Ability to lift up to 20kg as needed.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $18.00 per hour
