M&A; Advisory Analyst - Origination & Execution Support

About FirePower Capital:

FirePower Capital is the M&A; Advisory and Private Capital firm built for Canada’s entrepreneurs. The firm helps mid-market businesses complete mission-critical transactions.

Role Description:

The continued growth of our M&A; Advisory division has created the need for an Analyst supporting origination and execution. This is a dual role: you will identify, evaluate and engage prospective clients, and you will support our deal teams on active mandates. It is ideally suited to someone seeking to make a meaningful contribution in one of the more entrepreneurial areas of Canadian corporate finance. This is a hybrid position, with an expectation of three days per week in office.

Responsibilities:

In this role, your responsibilities involve the identification, evaluation and outreach to potential clients in order to foster meaningful dialogues that align with the objectives of the M&A; Advisory leadership team. You will be instrumental in propelling these discussions forward.

You will establish connections with business owners and senior executives, including CEOs, CFOs, presidents and managing directors, primarily through phone, email and LinkedIn. In collaboration with the leadership team, you will research prospective clients and their sectors, communicate FirePower’s value proposition, and conduct initial qualifying conversations. You will document your outreach carefully in our CRM, making full use of the tools available to you.

You will additionally support the M&A; Advisory team on active mandates, contributing to credentials and pitch materials, comparable company and precedent transaction analyses, and buyer and target research on sell-side and buy-side engagements.

As a self-starter, you are goal-oriented, communicate exceptionally well, and are motivated by exceeding your targets. Consistent achievement beyond your objectives will provide a pathway for advancement within our M&A; Advisory team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

- Understand the M&A; Advisory team’s criteria for each new business opportunity (i.e., sectors, revenue levels, margin criteria, EBITDA thresholds, business models, etc.).
- Construct, cultivate and manage prospect lists, and research target sectors to prepare the market context and transaction precedents that inform credible first conversations.
- Initiate contact with prospects through email, phone calls and LinkedIn outreach, and manage structured follow-up sequences through to a response.
- Conduct introductory qualifying conversations with business owners and senior executives, and assess opportunities against the team’s mandate criteria.
- Contribute to credentials decks, pitch materials and market updates for prospective clients.
- Prepare comparable company and precedent transaction analyses to support valuation discussions.
- Assist with the preparation of information memoranda and supporting materials on active sell-side and buy-side mandates.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and events, including the preparation of target lists and the scheduling of meetings in advance of attendance.
- Maintain an accurate record of activities in our CRM, and adopt data-driven practices to enhance individual performance.
- Consistently meet or surpass individual performance objectives, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and development.

This role reports to the M&A; Advisory leadership team on a day-to-day basis and will be working closely with the Directors of the M&A; Advisory group. Tools & Technology

FirePower Capital invests in the technology that enables a focused team to operate at scale.

You will make regular use of our CRM, market and financial data platforms, company screening tools, and artificial intelligence applications that support sector research, company assessment and the preparation of materials. An interest in using these tools effectively, and in helping shape how we use them, is considered an asset.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field, with a distinguished academic record.
- Sound understanding of mergers & acquisitions, business valuation and capital markets.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage senior executives.
- Ability to review financial statements and form an informed perspective on a business and its value.
- High level of organization, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and concurrent conversations.
- Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and familiarity with, or demonstrated interest in, the application of data and technology to business development.
- This position requires 1-2 years of work experience. Candidates with additional relevant experience in investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate development or commercial banking are welcome to apply.

Who we look for:

Above all, we are looking for someone who shares our values and is in it for the long haul as part of our core team. You act consistently, fairly, and with respect for others. You are motivated, take initiative, think creatively, and value being held accountable for both your successes and failures. You take pride in the quality of your work, solve challenging problems collaboratively, and believe that you will never stop learning. You maintain high standards of skilled and ethical conduct.

Next steps:

Only complete cover letters and applications through our website and/or recruiter will be accepted. Only candidates we wish to interview will be contacted. We look forward to hearing from you.
