Position: Mainframe Developer

Location: Toronto, ON – Hybrid

Job Summary The Senior Mainframe Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise-scale mainframe applications. The developer will work extensively with COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS DB/DC, VSAM, TSO/ISPF and other mainframe technologies.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop complex Mainframe applications using COBOL and related technologies.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into detailed technical designs.
- Develop and maintain COBOL programs, JCL, copybooks, datasets, utilities and batch processes.
- Work with CICS for online/transaction-processing applications.
- Develop and maintain applications using DB2 and/or IMS DB/DC.
- Work with VSAM files and mainframe datasets.
- Create and modify JCL for application execution and batch processing.
- Perform unit, integration, system and end-to-end testing.
- Troubleshoot application defects, job abends, data issues and production incidents.




- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective solutions.
- Support production deployments, maintenance activities and application enhancements.
- Analyze existing mainframe code and determine system impacts and dependencies.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure development follows enterprise coding and security standards.
- Work with business analysts, architects, QA teams, infrastructure teams and other developers.
- Maintain technical documentation, application specifications and support documentation.
- Participate in modernization and automation initiatives involving mainframe applications.
- Support interfaces and integrations with other enterprise systems, potentially including XML, TIBCO, FTP/NDM and APIs.
- Use tools such as TSO/ISPF, Endevor, SAS, File-Aid and job scheduling tools as applicable.
- Participate in production support/on-call activities when required.
