Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Officer, Communications and Public Engagement, the successful applicant will develop, execute and lead comprehensive marketing and communications plans, with a focus on community engagement and stakeholder relations to support Peel District School Board initiatives and events.
As Manager, Marketing & Communications, you will work with senior administration, school administrators and trustees on key initiatives and develop marketing and communication strategies that support public consultation, partnerships and relationships with external audiences; supervise permanent and contract staff in the department; manage project budgets and timelines; and develop and facilitate career development sessions.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic marketing and communications plans, with a focus on community engagement for external audiences;
- Contribute to overall marketing and communications strategy and components to support system wide implementation of key board initiatives. This includes brainstorming, drafting marketing and communications plans, writing marketing and communications support materials, and execution across communications channels;
- Develop and execute high-profile integrated marketing and promotional campaigns aimed at enhancing the board's and schools' reputations in communities and supporting enrollment;
- Identify the scope of projects - both within the Communications department and for internal clients, both in terms of time required and budget;
- Supervise department staff and external vendors;
- Responsible for managing, mentoring and evaluating the communications team to high performance;
- Work with the Executive Officer, Public Engagement and Communications to oversee the hiring of new staff;
- Manage and prioritize new requests or urgent issues;
- Advise senior administration, school administrators and Trustees on key issues;
- Provide time-sensitive, strategic communications counsel to Director’s Office, Superintendents, Trustees, Principals and other management staff;
- Provide clear direction and counsel designed to maintain the board’s positive reputation and to protect the board’s interests;
- Prepare and present oral and written reports - often of a sensitive and highly confidential nature;
- Develop and/or revise job descriptions;
- Screen applicants for positions supervised;
- Develop and implement processes to improve workflow and productivity of department;
- Identify and monitor emerging issues that impact the Peel District School Board;
- Participate in special initiatives and projects on an as-needed basis;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field and/or a diploma in Public Relations or Corporate Communications
- Minimum seven (7) years' related experience in progressively responsible positions
- Excellent leadership, people management and collaboration skills
- Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-oppression, and to dismantling racism
- Sound expertise in communications/marketing theories, practices and principles (strategic communications, marketing, writing, copyediting, proofreading and research)
- In-depth knowledge in determining effective external marketing and communications strategies and tools
- Strong project management, organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to respond rapidly and effectively to communications needs
- Outstanding storytelling & writing – including video scripts, ads, web copy, remarks, articles
- Strong professional/technical writing, copy editing, proofreading and research skills
- Knowledge of trends in digital communication
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge - Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Canva and other digital management software
- Solid experience with digital marketing, content marketing and social media management
- Experience with web design and web content development
- Creativity and independent thinking
- Knowledge of Human Resources and Finance practices
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment
Additional Skills & Assets
- Understanding of the public sector and educational issues
- Understanding of the Education Act and the impact of Bills, Regulations, Policies and Operating Procedures on Board and school operations
- Knowledge of Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act
- Affiliation and professional accreditation with the International Association of Business Communicators, Canadian Association of Communicators in Education, the National School Public Relations Association or the Canadian Public Relations Society
