Mechanical Engineer / CAD Designer – Manufacturing & Fabrication

S-Bend Welding Inc. is looking for a reliable, motivated, and experienced Mechanical Engineer / CAD Designer to join our manufacturing and fabrication operation.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position for someone who enjoys designing real-world fabricated products and working directly with the shop to turn ideas and drawings into finished parts.

Responsibilities

- Create custom 2D and 3D drawings and models using Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks
- Design fabricated steel parts, assemblies, brackets, frames, and custom components
- Prepare accurate manufacturing drawings with dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, bend information, and welding details
- Create designs from customer requirements, sketches, measurements, samples, or existing parts
- Modify and improve existing drawings and products
- Work directly with welders, laser cutting, press brake, and other production personnel
- Design parts with efficient manufacturing, assembly, welding, and material usage in mind
- Assist with prototypes, custom projects, reverse engineering, and shop-floor problem-solving
- Maintain organized CAD files, drawings, and revisions
- Carefully check drawings before releasing them for production
- Help identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing time, material waste, and unnecessary complexity

Qualifications & Skills

- Strong experience with Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks
- Mechanical engineering, mechanical design, CAD, or related education/experience preferred
- Experience with steel fabrication, welding, laser cutting, and press brake forming is a strong asset




- Strong general computer skills and the ability to confidently learn and operate different computer programs and manufacturing software
- Comfortable working with digital files, drawings, email, spreadsheets, and other computer-based systems
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, in order to understand instructions, discuss designs with production staff, and prepare accurate documentation
- Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, fits, and manufacturing drawings
- Ability to measure and reverse-engineer existing parts
- Strong attention to detail
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision

Reliability & Work Expectations Reliability, punctuality, and attendance are extremely important for this position.

The successful candidate must be prepared to arrive on time every day and be ready to work at the scheduled starting time.

This is a busy manufacturing environment. There will be times when longer hours and overtime are required to meet production schedules and customer deadlines. Applicants must be willing and able to work additional hours when reasonably required.

What We Are Looking For We are especially interested in someone who is practical, computer-confident, and manufacturing-minded.

We are not looking for someone who only knows how to create a model on a computer. We want someone who understands—or is eager to learn—how a drawing becomes a laser-cut, formed, welded, assembled, and finished steel product.

You should be comfortable communicating directly with the people building your designs. If something does not work on the shop floor, you should be willing to come out, look at the problem, take measurements, and help find a practical solution.

Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
