About Exa Capital

Exa Capital is a permanent capital holding company focused on acquiring and building vertical market software businesses. We take a long-term, stewardship-driven approach – buying and holding companies forever, and empowering leaders through a decentralized operating model.

Role Overview The Marketing Manager owns the execution engine for Exa's portfolio marketing. This is a deliberately balanced role: roughly half growth marketing, roughly half marketing operations. You will run demand generation programs that produce measurable pipeline for portfolio companies, and you will own the systems, workflows, and delivery cadence that let a small team serve many brands without dropping quality.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you translate portfolio priorities into scoped, sequenced, resourced work, then make sure it ships. You lead a cross-functional team, and you work in close partnership with Exa's Value Creation team, including RevOps, to connect marketing output to the growth initiatives and revenue targets inside each portfolio company. You are accountable for both the numbers the campaigns produce and the reliability of the machine that produces them.

Key Responsibilities

1. Demand generation and growth marketing (40%)

- Build and optimize multi-channel demand programs across email, LinkedIn, paid media, SEO, and web, mapped to each portfolio company’s ICP and sales motion.
- Own full-funnel performance from acquisition through nurture to conversion, with pipeline contribution as the primary measure.
- Run a standing experimentation program: A/B tests on messaging, offers, landing pages, and campaign configuration, with documented results that transfer across portfolio companies.
- Analyze channel performance and reallocate spend and effort toward what converts. Kill what does not.
- Partner with portfolio company sales leaders on lead quality, handoff, follow-up discipline, and closed-loop reporting.

2. Marketing operating and delivery (30%)

- Own Monday.com for the marketing department: intake, briefs, task structure, dashboards, capacity planning, and reporting.
- Run the operating cadence. Sprint planning, prioritization, resource allocation across portfolio companies, and weekly delivery reviews.
- Enforce structured intake and high-quality briefs so work starts scoped rather than half-defined.
- Maintain a portfolio-wide view of capacity, velocity, and risk. Identify bottlenecks before they become missed deadlines, and resolve or escalate them.
- Build and improve templates, playbooks, and repeatable frameworks so a program built for one portfolio company can be deployed at a second one in days.
- Own the martech stack in partnership with the Director: HubSpot configuration, segmentation, lifecycle automation, attribution, and reporting hygiene.

3. Value Creation and RevOps collaboration (15%)

- Work directly with the Value Creation team to translate portfolio company Value Creation Plans into marketing programs with defined targets, owners, and timelines.
- Partner with RevOps on the shared revenue engine: funnel stage definitions, lead scoring and routing, MQL to SQL handoff SLAs, CRM data hygiene,

and attribution methodology. Marketing and sales work off one set of numbers.
- Build closed-loop reporting with RevOps so campaign spend can be traced through to pipeline, closed revenue, and CAC payback.
- Contribute the marketing view to VCP reviews, MBRs, and QBRs: what is working, what is not, what it would take to accelerate, and what it would cost.
- Support organic growth and GTM improvement initiatives across the portfolio, which is the portfolio-wide priority for 2026.
- Bring pattern recognition across the portfolio. What works at one company should be pressure-tested and deployed at the others rather than rediscovered.

4. Team leadership (15%)

- Lead and develop the cross-functional marketing team: content, design, web development, SEO, paid, analytics, and lead generation.
- Set clear goals, give direct feedback in real time, and coach people toward work that stretches them.
- Manage the Marketing Operations Manager as a direct report and hold that function accountable for delivery predictability.
- Participate in hiring: define capability gaps, screen candidates, and partner with Exa HR on workforce planning as the portfolio grows.
- Build a team culture where quality standards are non-negotiable and status is visible without being chased.

Portfolio partnership and reporting Across all four areas above, you serve as the primary marketing partner to a set of designated portfolio companies. That means:

- Understanding each one's commercial goals, competitive position, and revenue targets well enough to challenge a plan, not just execute one.
- Reporting performance to the Director of Marketing, the Value Creation team, and portfolio company leadership: campaign results, pipeline contribution, spend efficiency, and delivery status.
- Communicating risk early. Timelines, capacity constraints, and underperforming programs get surfaced when they appear, not at the review.
- Working across US, Canadian, and APAC time zones, including regular coordination with New Zealand-based portfolio companies.

Qualifications

Required

- 8+ years in B2B marketing, with at least 2 years leading a team.
- Demonstrated record of generating qualified pipeline in a B2B SaaS or software setting, with numbers you can speak to.
- Hands-on depth in marketing operations: workflow management, prioritization across competing demands, and capacity planning.
- Direct experience working alongside RevOps or sales operations on funnel definitions, lead routing, CRM hygiene, and attribution.
- Advanced HubSpot proficiency across automation, segmentation, lifecycle stages, attribution, and reporting.
- Working command of SEO, content marketing, paid media, web (WordPress or equivalent), and analytics platforms.
- Experience supporting multiple brands, business units, or clients at once.
- Strong written and verbal communication.

You can present a performance story to a CEO in five minutes and defend the numbers behind it.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred

- Experience in an internal agency, agency, or high-volume delivery environment.
- Hands-on Monday.com or equivalent work management platform ownership.
- Exposure to value creation, transformation, or growth initiative work in a PE-backed or multi-company environment.
- Marketing experience in vertical market software or for products sold into a specific industry.
- Exposure to international markets, particularly US and APAC.

Compensation Total annual target base salary range is $100,000–$125,000 CAD, based on experience, skill set, internal equity, and market comparisons. We’ll walk through the details together during the interview process.
