Position Summary The Materials Testing Laboratory Manager will ensure that laboratory and field-testing activities are conducted safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards and industry requirements. The laboratory provides testing services for concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt in support of construction, engineering, infrastructure, and quality assurance projects The position is also responsible for maintaining CCIL certifications, serving as the company’s Radiation Safety Officer, coordinating field staff and testing schedules, and supporting business development and client relationships.

Working in partnership with Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers Ltd. and TREK Engineering, our knowledgeable team is supported by professional civil, geotechnical, and structural Engineers. Our materials testing laboratory prides itself on our extensive experience across a broad range of projects and expertise, whether we provide Quality Control or Quality Assurance testing services.

QUALITY & OPERATIONS

· Manage day-to-day operations of the materials testing laboratory, including concrete, soils, aggregate, and asphalt testing.

· Coordinate external services with sub-contractors.

· Provide technical guidance to laboratory and field personnel on materials testing procedures and standards.

· Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and regulatory requirements governing the possession, transportation, storage, use, and servicing of nuclear gauges.

BUISNESS DEVELOPMENT

· Work with senior management to establish pricing, resource requirements, and service strategies.

· Monitor market conditions and identify opportunities to expand testing capabilities and services.

· Lead, hire, mentor, and develop laboratory and field personnel.

· Support the growth of the materials testing business by developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.

LAB MANAGEMENT

· Monitor laboratory performance, productivity, turnaround times, and quality metrics.

· Investigate non-conformances,



testing issues, and client concerns and implement corrective actions.

· Lead the process of obtaining, maintaining, and expanding applicable CCIL laboratory certifications.

· Ensure testing is performed in accordance with applicable CCIL, CSA, and ASTM standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.

· Significant experience in construction materials testing, laboratory operations, or quality assurance.

· Strong working knowledge of concrete, soils, aggregate, and asphalt testing.

· Experience with CCIL certification and laboratory quality systems is strongly preferred.

· Experience with nuclear density gauges and radiation safety requirements; Radiation Safety Officer experience is preferred.

· Knowledge of applicable CSA, ASTM, CCIL, and other construction materials testing standards.

· Previous supervisory or laboratory management experience would be an asset.

· Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as required.

· Strong computer, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

SALARY RANGE | $75,000 – $100,000

Based on a 40-hour work week and the applicant’s experience and qualifications. Range may be adjusted for candidates outside the expected skillset.
