At Solinas Technologies, we are dedicated to revolutionizing how underground infrastructure is located, mapped, and protected. Buried, non-metallic pipes—such as PVC, PE, and HDPE water and gas service lines—present a complex challenge for municipalities, utility contractors, and service providers because traditional electromagnetic locators cannot detect them.
Solinas solves this critical industry challenge with our patented acoustic sensing technology. Our flagship product, the SonicFinder 1000, delivers fast, precise, and non-intrusive locating of underground non-metallic utilities without requiring tracer wires or direct interior pipe access. Engineered to perform reliably across wide-ranging soil conditions and harsh outdoor environments, Solinas products give field technicians a dependable, field-proven solution where traditional tools fall short.
As we scale our technology to its V2 iteration, we are advancing our acoustic hardware platforms to deliver even higher reliability, ruggedness, and seamless integration for field workers worldwide. Join our team to help build the next generation of essential infrastructure locator tools!
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer on a 4-month contract basis to lead the mechanical hardware iteration for the V2 version of our Sonicfinder technology. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to refine existing mechanical architectures, optimize enclosures, and ensure high-reliability performance in demanding field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D CAD Design & Modeling: Design, build, and modify complex mechanical parts, assemblies, and enclosure concepts tailored for the V2 Sonicfinder hardware platform.
- Environmental Protection Design: Implement robust sealing and structural strategies to achieve IP65 and IP67ingress protection ratings for field-deployed electronic/acoustic components.
- Prototyping & DFM: Prepare Detailed Engineering Drawings (GD&T;) for manufacturing, support rapid prototyping, and interface with vendors for rapid machining, molding, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Design Validation: Conduct structural tolerance stack-up analyses, material selection, and fit checks to ensure durability against environmental stresses (dust, moisture, pressure, impact).
- Documentation: Maintain accurate CAD models, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and revision histories throughout the product iteration cycle.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, or equivalent practical hardware design experience.
CAD Proficiency: Advanced hands-on proficiency in SolidWorks for complex parametric solid/surface modeling and assemblies.
IP Enclosure Expertise: Direct experience designing for IP65 and IP67 standards (gaskets, O-rings, overmolding, cable glands, and water-tight pass-throughs).
Manufacturing Knowledge: Practical understanding of DFM/DFA principles across injection molding, CNC machining, die casting, or rapid prototyping techniques.
Execution & Delivery: Strong problem-solving abilities with a track record of meeting tight product delivery milestones independently.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their resume and portfolio (or sample CAD projects) to [
