Mechanical Insulator – Apprentice to Journeyman

About the Position

Inso-Energie Inc. – Mechanical Division is looking for reliable and skilled Mechanical Insulators, from 1st Year Apprentice to Journeyman level, to join our commercial insulation team.

Our work focuses on commercial mechanical insulation projects involving piping, ductwork, equipment, valves, fittings, and mechanical systems. We are looking for individuals who take pride in their workmanship, follow safety requirements, and are interested in building a long-term career with the company.

Employees may work both on commercial project sites and in our fabrication shop, depending on project requirements and workload.

Key Responsibilities

· Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

· Measure, cut, fit, and install insulation on piping, ductwork, equipment, valves, fittings, and mechanical systems.

· Install and finish PVC, aluminum, metal jacketing, cladding, and vapour barriers.

· Fabricate and install insulation fittings, including elbows, tees, valve covers, flange covers, and end caps.

· Seal and finish seams, joints, overlaps, penetrations, and terminations.

· Repair, replace, and modify damaged insulation and jacketing.

· Safely use hand tools, power tools, lifts, ladders, and fabrication equipment.

· Work safely at heights and on active commercial construction sites.

· Coordinate with foremen, supervisors, and other trades.

· Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure quality workmanship.

· Report safety hazards, deficiencies, and material requirements to the Foreman or Supervisor.

PVC & Metal Jacketing and Fittings

· Measure, cut, fit, form, and install PVC, aluminum, and metal jacketing.

· Fabricate and install elbows, tees, valve covers, flange covers, end caps, and other fittings.

· Secure and seal seams, joints, overlaps, and terminations for a clean and durable finish.

· Use drawings and field measurements to prepare and install jacketing systems.

· Repair, replace, and modify jacketing and fittings as required.

· Prepare components in the shop and complete installation and finishing work on project sites.

Shop & Additional Duties

When field installation work is limited or fabrication is required for upcoming projects, employees may be assigned to the shop to:

· Fabricate PVC, metal, and other insulation fittings and components.

· Measure, cut, prepare, and fabricate materials based on drawings and field measurements.

· Prepare insulation materials and fittings for upcoming installations.





· Organize and stage materials for project crews.

· Assist with material preparation, organization, and inventory.

· Maintain clean and safe shop work areas.

· Support field crews by preparing fabricated components and materials required for installation.

· Perform other related duties that support the successful completion of commercial projects.

Employees are expected to be flexible and willing to work wherever they are needed to support project requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

· Commercial mechanical insulation experience is preferred.

· Apprentice or Journeyman status in Mechanical Insulation or a related trade is an asset.

· Journeyman-level mechanical insulation knowledge and skills are preferred.

· Experience with PVC and metal jacketing, fittings, installation, and finishing is an asset.

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

· Valid driver’s licence required.

· Valid lift training/certification required.

· Valid fall protection/harness training required.

· Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and insulation/fabrication equipment.

· Physically capable of lifting and handling insulation materials and working at heights.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

· Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

· Good communication, reliability, and work ethic.

· Must be willing and able to travel to different project locations.

· Must be willing to temporarily relocate outside Edmonton when required by project needs.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Successful candidates may be required to complete and pass:

· Drug and alcohol testing, where required by the company or project site.

· Criminal background check.

· Verification of driver’s licence and required certifications.

· Site-specific safety orientations and additional training as required.

Wage Rates

Wage rates are based on the employee’s classification and are solely determined by the current wage rates provided by Insulators Local 110. Rates are subject to change when updated wage rates are issued by Insulators Local 110.

Base Hourly Rate

1st Year Apprentice

$19.14/hr + 10% vacation pay

2nd Year Apprentice

$24.89/hr + 10% vacation pay

3rd Year Apprentice

$30.63/hr + 10% vacation pay

4th Year Apprentice

$36.37/hr + 10% vacation pay





Uncertified Journeyperson

$36.37/hr + 10% vacation pay

Journeyman

$38.29/hr + 10% vacation pay

Note: Wage rates are updated annually based on the current wage schedule provided by Insulators Local 110.

Work Location & Travel

Our main office is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Employees will work at various commercial project sites and may also be required to work in the company fabrication shop.

Project locations may change depending on company and client requirements. Employees must be willing and able to travel and, when required, temporarily relocate outside Edmonton.

For eligible projects outside Edmonton, subsistence and travel allowances may be provided based on project location, travel requirements, duration of the assignment, and applicable company policy.
