About Us Mountain Roots Education’s mission is to enrich lives and build sustainable communities by offering hands-on experiences in gardens, farms, and wild places. We provide farm and garden education in school gardens in our region, as well as sustainable living workshops for the community.

This summer, we are building upon a program we created last summer - Sweet Roots Farm Camp. The Monday through Thursday camp will take place at Sweet Hollow Farm in Victor, ID, and will offer students the opportunity to participate in growing produce for themselves and their peers, learning the ways of small-scale organic farming. Each day, kids will gather to care for the crops, prepare a simple recipe with the harvest, explore the farm and the surrounding hills, and connect with the natural world and each other.

Summer participants will be invited back at the end of the season to help harvest the remaining food that will then go into the school cafeterias. A camp counselor, likely a high school student, will assist the educator each day, and there will be a maximum of 12 students each day.

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Farm Camp Educator to join our team this summer. In this role, you will develop and lead outdoor, farm-based educational activities for children and teens ranging in age from 7-13. You will also mentor and have assistance from one or more camp counselors age 16+. You’ll inspire young people to explore the farm, care for plants, cook with seasonal produce, and deepen their relationship with the land and each other.

This is an exciting chance for an experienced educator, naturalist, or farmworker who loves working with youth and thrives in an outdoor, hands-on learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and lead engaging,



age-appropriate activities involving gardening, cooking, nature hikes, and art projects.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment for campers.
- Support the day-to-day operations of summer camp, including setup, cleanup, and garden maintenance.
- Collaborate with other staff and partners to plan and implement weekly themes and special projects.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging curiosity, empathy, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
- Communicate clearly with campers, families, and fellow staff; provide updates and support as needed.

Qualifications

- Experience teaching or mentoring youth (elementary through high school) in outdoor or experiential learning settings.
- Background in natural science, farming/gardening, environmental education, or related fields.
- Comfort with farm work, including handling tools, materials, and heavy lifting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the start of camp) – Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification preferred.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all summer weather conditions and perform physical tasks.

Schedule & Compensation
- Hours: 32 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (16 hours/week possible if position is divided between two educators)
- Season Dates: June 15–August 20th, 2026 – camp weeks begin June 29th and run through the week of August 3rd.
- Additional hours may be available through mid-October for harvest events at the farm and fall programming in one of our school gardens.
- Compensation: $25/hour (plus fresh veggies!)
