General Statement of Duties: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Siksika Health Services (SHS) plays a key role in delivering comprehensive primary care to members of the Siksika Nation. This position is responsible for managing a patient panel, providing same‑day care, supporting patients of all ages, included but not limited to home care clients as well as postpartum mothers and infants.

The NP will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to enhance access to timely, patient‑centered care that reflects the values, and health priorities of the Siksika Nation.

The Nurse Practitioner will conduct assessments, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, prescribe medications, and coordinate care across the continuum of services. This role supports SHS’s commitment to holistic, community‑focused healthcare that integrates clinical excellence with cultural safety and respect.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):

- Provide comprehensive primary care to an assigned patient panel, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up.
- Offer same‑day and care appointments for acute concerns, ensuring timely access for community members.
- Support home care clients by conducting same day assessments in clinic, managing chronic conditions, and coordinating care with the Home Care team.
- Deliver postpartum and newborn care, including health assessments, breastfeeding support, and early childhood wellness guidance.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop evidence‑based care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health providers, and allied health professionals to ensure integrated, patient‑centered care.
- Promote health education and preventative care strategies tailored to the needs of the Siksika community.
- Support culturally informed care practices that respect Siksika traditions,



language, and community values.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records.
- Coordinate referrals to internal and external specialists and services.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols, policies, and best practices within SHS.
- Stay current with clinical guidelines, regulations, and best practices in primary care, Indigenous health, and community‑based nursing.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and cultural competency training.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with patients, families, and community partners.

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

- Master’s degree in nursing with Nurse Practitioner designation (Family/All Ages preferred).
- Current registration and licensure in valuable standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Additional training in Indigenous health, maternal‑child health, addictions health, palliative health, emergency health, or community health is an asset.

Experience:

- Experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in primary care.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or within a First Nations health context is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage both acute and chronic conditions across the lifespan.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Cultural Competency: Understanding of Siksika Nation culture, traditions, and community health needs, with a commitment to culturally safe care.
- Clinical Expertise: Proficiency in primary care, urgent care, maternal‑child health, and chronic disease management.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and build strong community relationships.
- Critical Thinking: Strong clinical judgment and problem‑solving skills.
- Technological Proficiency: Comfortable using electronic health records and digital health tools.
