ABOUT DOMINION MESSENGER
Dominion Messenger is a locally owned courier, delivery, and distribution company serving Edmonton and surrounding areas. We are looking for a hands-on, collaborative Operations Manager to work closely with ownership and our team to support the day-to-day operation of the company.
This is an important role within our organization and an opportunity for someone who wants to become deeply involved in the business, learn how it operates, and become someone our employees, customers, and ownership can depend on.
THE ROLE
Our Operations Manager will work alongside ownership to help manage daily operations, support and coach employees, solve problems, and ensure things get done.
Ownership remains actively involved in the business and operational decision-making. We are looking for a strong operational partner who can help identify issues, work through solutions, coordinate follow-up, and provide day-to-day leadership and support to our team.
This is a working manager position. While everyone has their own primary responsibilities, we are a collaborative team and expect our Operations Manager to be willing to pitch in wherever support is needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with ownership to oversee and support daily operations.
- Provide approachable, supportive, and accountable leadership to employees.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and guidance to help employees develop their skills and succeed in their roles.
- Work collaboratively with dispatch, drivers, warehouse, administration, and ownership.
- Monitor daily workloads, staffing, deliveries, and operational priorities
- Troubleshoot operational, delivery, staffing, and customer service issues and help see them through to resolution.
- Step in to support different areas of the business during busy periods, absences, or unexpected circumstances.
- Assist with scheduling, recruiting, onboarding, training, and cross-training.
- Identify recurring problems and work collaboratively with ownership and employees to develop practical solutions and improve processes.
- Work with Accounts Receivable team to keep billing and receivables organized and current.
- Provide general administrative support and follow-up where needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
- Investigate issues and work with the team and ownership to find practical solutions.
- Assist with onboarding new customers and learning their operational and billing requirements.
- Help ensure customers consistently receive reliable, responsive, and skilled service.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION We recognize that strong operations leaders can come from a variety of backgrounds. Relevant education is an asset, but we place significant value on practical experience, leadership ability,
good judgment, initiative, and follow-through.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- 3–5+ years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, transportation, distribution, dispatch, warehousing, customer service, administration, or another fast-paced service workplace.
- 2+ years of experience leading or supervising employees, including coaching, feedback, training, and day-to-day direction.
- Experience managing competing priorities, solving problems, and following issues through to resolution.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience working directly with customers and handling service concerns.
- Comfort working with numbers, invoices, spreadsheets, and business software.
- Experience with billing, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, or financial administration is an asset.
- Experience with scheduling, onboarding, training, or performance management is an asset.
- Courier, transportation, logistics, distribution, or last-mile delivery experience is an asset but is not required for the right candidate.
- Post-secondary education in business administration, management, operations, logistics, supply chain, accounting, human resources, or a related field is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
