About the Position
The Department of National Defence is hiring Food Service Helpers to support food service operations at Canadian Forces Base Borden.
The successful candidates will work as part of a team in a large-scale institutional dining facility and assist with the preparation, serving, and overall delivery of food services.
Duties
- Assist with the preparation, assembly, and serving of meals
- Gather, transport, receive, and store food products and supplies
- Replenish serving areas
- Clean and sanitize food preparation, service, and dining areas
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety proceduresOperate a point-of-sale terminal and perform cashier duties, depending on operational requirements
- Provide other food service support as required
- Work effectively as part of a team
Required Experience
Applicants must have experience working as part of a team in a food service environment.
Relevant experience may include
- Restaurants
- Hotels
- Catering services
- Hospitals
- Long-term care or assisted living facilities
- Schools or other educational institutions
- Military food service environments
- Correctional facilities
- Camps
Asset Qualifications
The following are considered assets but are not required to apply:
- Culinary certificate
- At least one year of completed culinary training
- Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education,
training, and/or experience
- Valid recognized food safety certificate
- Experience as a short-order cook, cook, or commis
- Point-of-sale (POS) experience
- Cashier experience
- Experience working or volunteering in a mixed military/civilian setting
Conditions and Requirements
Applicants must be:
- Willing and able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 20 kg (44 lbs)
- Able to stand for prolonged periods
- Willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Willing and able to complete a valid food safety program
- Willing and able to work shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Willing and able to work overtime on short notice, if required
- Able to obtain Reliability Status security clearance
- Willing and able to work on-site at CFB Borden
