Pattern Maker
Key Responsibilities
- Develop first patterns from design specifications, technical sketches, samples, and measurements.
- Create production-ready patterns for new garment styles.
- Modify existing patterns based on fit sessions, customer requirements, and production feedback.
- Grade patterns into required size ranges while maintaining proper fit and proportions.
- Prepare markers to maximize fabric utilization and minimize waste.
- Verify pattern accuracy prior to production.
- Produce sample patterns for prototypes and pre-production garments.
- Work closely with sample sewers and production staff to resolve construction and fit issues.
- Attend fit sessions and incorporate approved revisions into final production patterns.
- Ensure all pattern pieces include accurate notches, grain lines, seam allowances, drill holes, labels, and construction references.
- Maintain organized pattern files and revision records.
- Collaborate with Production, Cutting, Quality Control, and Customer Service to ensure garments meet specifications.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to garment fit, construction, or pattern accuracy.
- Recommend improvements that simplify construction while maintaining garment quality.
- Ensure patterns comply with customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary patterns and customer designs.
- Assist with product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Pattern Maker in the garment or apparel manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, grading, and production processes.
- Experience creating patterns for production garments.
- Knowledge of marker making and fabric utilization.
- Experience using manual and/or computerized pattern-making systems (Gerber, Lectra, Optitex, Tukatech, or similar software is considered an asset).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and garment construction methods.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a production environment.
- Strong communication skills.
