SMS Equipment is looking for a Payroll Coordinator to support all activities related to the Company’s hourly payroll for the Western Region. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, this position is responsible for payroll processing, auditing, employee payroll and benefits inquiries, and maintaining accurate payroll records while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and company policies.

Work Location: Acheson, AB.

Salary: $72,500 per annum.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – providing the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.

Schedule: Monday to Friday. What You'll Do:

- Process and audit hourly payroll for the Western Region.
- Maintain current knowledge of payroll procedures, regulations, legislation, and benefit administration requirements.
- Administer and interpret complex payroll and benefit regulations.
- Maintain accurate payroll and HR records and ensure data integrity.
- Process payroll-related changes and updates in a timely manner.

- Calculate payroll liabilities, deductions, and statutory remittances including income tax, employment insurance, pension, and workers’ compensation.
- Extract, verify, and reconcile payroll data from payroll and internal systems.
- Process garnishments, retirement contributions, records of employment, and payroll journal entries.

- Support general ledger reconciliations related to payroll activities.
- Respond to employee, management, and branch inquiries regarding payroll and benefits.
- Provide payroll information and support for problem solving and issue resolution.

- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and payroll records.
- Ensure payroll filing is completed accurately and correspondence is properly secured.

What You Bring: The successful candidate brings payroll administration experience along with a strong understanding of payroll legislation, payroll processing, and employee benefit programs. They are highly detail-oriented, able to maintain confidentiality, and possess strong communication and customer service skills. Other requirements include:





- PCP designation with active membership status.
- Experience administering payroll and benefits in a complex environment.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial payroll legislation and remittance requirements.
- Experience processing payroll deductions, garnishments, retirement contributions, and records of employment.

- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Experience working with payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, and external stakeholders.

- Experience working in a unionized environment and with collective agreements is considered an asset.
