Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Personal Injury Paralegal to manage Accident Benefits matters arising from motor vehicle collisions. This role is ideal for a licensed qualified who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and is confident managing files independently from intake through resolution.
The successful candidate will provide legal support, strategic guidance, and representation to clients while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and tribunal procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage Accident Benefits files from initial intake through settlement, including all required documentation, deadlines, and procedural steps;
- Conduct client intake meetings, maintain ongoing communication, and provide regular updates regarding file strategy, compliance requirements, insurer examinations, attendant care, and medical reporting;
- Communicate professionally with clients, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, medical professionals, and other stakeholders regarding claim-related matters;
- Review, draft, and respond to productions, correspondence, motions, and incoming documentation;
- Obtain and implement client instructions, including settlement authority and direction;
- Prepare for and attend Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT) case conferences and hearings;
- Coordinate and delegate tasks to support staff, including scheduling meetings, preparing documentation, arranging assessments and treatments, and communicating updates to clients;
- Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date physical and electronic file management systems;
- Follow up proactively with adjusters and opposing counsel to advance files and resolve outstanding issues;
- Ensure strict compliance with court rules, LAT procedures, Law Society requirements, and professional ethical standards, including conflict avoidance and impartiality; and
- Perform additional duties as assigned by firm leadership.
Qualifications & Education
- Minimum 3 + years of experience working as a Paralegal, preferably in personal injury or Accident Benefits;
- Paralegal Diploma from an accredited institution;
- Licensed Paralegal in good standing.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) and LAT rules and procedures ;
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical practice;
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Solid mediation, negotiation, and client advocacy abilities;
- Sound judgment with proven analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to remain composed and effective in high-pressure situations;
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality;
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment;
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with capacity to manage competing priorities;
- Commitment to professional growth and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
