We are currently hiring full-time Physician Navigators for our partner sites in Scarborough.

As a Physician Navigator (PN) , you will work in collaboration with an Emergency Department (ED) physicians to support their workflow throughout their shift. Your core responsibility is to enhance physician efficiency by managing non-clinical, administrative, and flow-related tasks, enabling them to focus entirely on patient care. Please note that this position does not involve any clinical care.

Responsibilities

- Monitor treatment room usage to ensure efficient turnover
- Provide general updates to patients and visitors about ED workflow and wait times
- Assist in moving patients between the waiting area and assessment rooms
- Instruct patients on basic non-clinical preparation steps (e.g., changing into a gown)
- Organize and prepare necessary supplies for procedures
- Liaise with nurses, clerks, and Diagnostic Imaging (DI) to ensure timely test completion and optimal flow
- Track patients seen by the physician and prompt timely reassessments
- Distribute discharge paperwork and provide non-clinical instructions

This is a non-clinical support role. Physician Navigators do not provide medical care, make clinical decisions, provide medical advice, or replace physician duties—but rather support the physician in maintaining flow and ensuring a safe, efficient care environment.

Qualifications:

Education:





- Pursuing or completed a degree/certification in pre-med, nursing, healthcare administration, or a related discipline.

Experience:

- Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is an asset.
- Experience in a fast-paced hospital/clinic, medical office, or customer-facing role.
- Familiarity with common EMRs (Epic, MEDITECH, Cerner) is an asset but not required — full training will be provided.

Requirements:

- Strong computer literacy and administrative skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in a dynamic clinical setting
- Comfortable on your feet for long periods; able to move quickly between zones and tasks
- Strong situational awareness and ability to prioritize as ED conditions change
- Respect for privacy and confidentiality; understanding of PHIPA requirements

Availability:

- Must be flexible for evening and weekend shifts.
- Access to a vehicle or residence near the hospitals is preferred, especially for shifts outside public transit hours

Compensation and Commitment:

- $18.00 per hour, with yearly performance-based raises
- Minimum commitment of 4-5 shifts weekly
- Must be available to start immediately
- Minimum 1-year commitment
