Working closely with the Producers, production management team, company finance team and external accounting partners, the Production Accountant will manage day-to-day production accounting and maintain the accurate, timely financial records required to support bi-weekly cost reporting, tax-credit tracking, production financing and lender reporting.
This is a part-time role suited to an experienced production accountant who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the production's accounting records, reconciliations and supporting financial schedules.

- Provide the Supervising Producer with reconciled cost-to-date, commitment and variance data for each bi-weekly cost-reporting cycle.
- Ensure the general ledger and supporting schedules are current and reconciled in advance of each reporting cycle, and flag material coding issues, unusual spending or missing commitments.

- Maintain the production general ledger and ensure expenditures are accurately coded to the appropriate production accounts and cost categories.
- Manage accounts payable, including review of invoices, purchase orders, expense reports and supporting documentation, and coordinate payment processing for vendors, contractors and production personnel.
- Track payroll and production labour costs in coordination with payroll providers and production management.
- Reconcile production bank accounts, credit cards and other production accounts, and maintain appropriate approval and accounting controls.
Tax-Credit Tracking
- Maintain current federal and Ontario production tax-credit schedules, reconciled to the production general ledger and supporting cost records.
- Track qualifying labour and other eligible expenditures, including required residency/citizenship documentation, and flag potential eligibility or coding issues as they arise.
- Support interim and final tax-credit estimates, applications and audits by maintaining organized supporting schedules and documentation for Producers and external tax-credit advisors.
Financing, Cash & Lender Support
- Maintain accurate records of production financing receipts, including broadcaster licence fees, equity, production financing, tax-credit financing and other funding sources.
- Support lender and financing reporting by providing current cost-to-date data, financing receipts, bank balances, tax-credit schedules and other required financial information.
- Monitor production bank balances and upcoming payment requirements, and alert Producers to potential cash timing issues or shortfalls.
- Maintain documentation required for financing drawdowns, production loans and financing closings.
Wrap, Audit & External Coordination
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, payroll providers, tax-credit consultants, lenders and other financial partners as required.
- Assist with final production accounting, production wrap, audit preparation and final cost reporting.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in production accounting for film, television or animation.
- Strong understanding of production accounting, cost-to-date reporting, commitments, reconciliations and financial controls.
- Hands-on experience tracking Canadian federal and Ontario film and television production tax credits during active production.
- Familiarity with production financing structures, including tax-credit financing, interim financing and broadcaster licence fees.
- Experience preparing or supporting financial reporting for lenders, financiers, broadcasters, funding agencies or auditors.
- Strong Excel or spreadsheet skills and experience with production accounting software and standard accounting systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization and ability to manage recurring reporting deadlines independently.
- Solid communication skills and the ability to clearly explain production financial information to Producers and non-financial team members.
