The Role
We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Project Accounting Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing timely and accurate billing and project financial reporting, as well as monitoring key controls to support robust project financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist project managers in setting up and maintaining project and contract coding system in the ERP system. Review budget and estimates set up.
- Assist project managers with review of transactions posted to the accounting system from the job sites.
- Review project cost forecasts and percentage completion estimates. Coordinate with project managers to understand and explain changes in forecasts and profitability.
- Ongoing communication with project managers, site staff and head office regarding projects and changes to expected financial results.
- Facilitates monthly project review with the Business Unit and Finance group to discuss financial status of projects, issues and follow up action items. Post project cost and revenue accruals and perform GL to subledger reconciliations at month end.
- Prepares Monthly Business Unit Reporting Package and various ad hoc project reports as may be required.
- Assist project managers in understanding accounting, administrative and internal control procedures.
- Timely and accurate monthly billing and holdback release. Follow up on collections, and update comments in accounts receivable.
- Coordinate the closing of jobs in the accounting system.
- Identify, research and assist in implementing more efficient processes for project cost reporting and billing.
- Recommend updated policies and procedures applicable to project accounting and reporting
- Assist in preparation for annual financial audit and client project audits
- Assist and/or leading with special projects relating to job costing as may be required
- Collaborates with the Accounting team, supporting the various needs from time to time.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or related field.
- An accounting designation or progress towards a recognized accounting designation.
- Minimum 5-year experience in project accounting
- Advanced knowledge of Job Cost Accounting principles, practices and procedures
- Strong analysis and problem-solving ability to meet client and company needs.
- Proficient in Excel and prior experience with an ERP system.
