Community Dietitian (RD) - Keele Rogers Site

Part-time, Permanent Position (24.5 hours per week)

$37.53 to $44.46 per hour (salary commensurate on experience)

Unison is seeking a Community Dietitian (RD) to join the Primary Health Care team based at our Keele-Rogers site. Reporting to the Clinical and Allied Health Site Manager, the ideal Dietitian for this position will have experience working with clients who are vulnerable and have food security issues. The successful candidate will also bring strong skills in nutrition education, individual counseling, and group facilitation to the role.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

- Provide individual counselling to improve clients’ nutritional status through: assessment, client- centred dietary planning and evaluation, monitoring of nutritional status and making referrals in partnership with the clients and their families.
- Obtain and/or develop nutrition education resources that meet individual and/or community needs at appropriate literacy level




- Work in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Team and other staff to bring a nutrition perspective to health initiatives.
- Liaise with community partners and conduct community outreach as appropriate.
- Co-facilitate group education classes to Early Years program participants
- Deliver presentations to community groups
- Participate in team meetings and centre-wide initiatives
- Develop, implement and evaluate programs or educational activities
- Orientate, supervise and support students and/or volunteers
- Perform administrative tasks.

Job-Specific Qualifications:

- Member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario;
- Excellent nutrition assessment, counseling skills and group facilitation skills, utilizes evidence-based research in practice.
- Experience and strong knowledge of pediatric nutrition concerns e.g. faltering growth, allergies, and feeding difficulties etc.
- Effective group development, planning, implementation and evaluation skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in group work and community development.
- Experience in community health, experience working in a multidisciplinary team, an understanding of health promotion, understanding of social health determinants including food security issues
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (experience in Practice Solutions Suite/PSS is an asset).
- Familiarity with the social, economic and cultural conditions of the project’s geographic area, experience in working with local service providers, community groups and networks, and an understanding of local issues and priorities are an asset.
- Experience serving Unison’s priority populations (seniors with complex needs,



people with mental health & addiction issues, LGBTQ2IA+, and youth facing barriers).
- Sensitivity to the impact of social health determinants on a diverse, urban, low-income community.
- Sensitivity to and knowledge of the needs of a multicultural, multiracial community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the impact of social, economic, environmental and cultural issues on diverse communities.
- Knowledge of issues affecting communities facing barriers to access in an urban setting.
- Effective communication (verbal, written and presentation), interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills, including computer literacy skills specific to job requirements.
- Knowledge of a second (or more) language and culture is an asset.
- Ability to work one evening a week.
