Organization Description The BC Access to Justice Centre for Excellence (ACE), established at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 2015, focuses on addressing the growing challenge of diminishing access to justice. ACE brings together academic expertise, justice system partners, and community stakeholders to improve how people experience and navigate the justice system. The Centre conducts research, fosters innovation in legal education and practice, and promotes evidence-based policy solutions.

ACE offers a collaborative environment where professionals can contribute to meaningful change in access to justice and public legal education.

Role Description The Research and Education Coordinator is a part-time, in office role based in Victoria, BC. This position coordinates and supports research projects related to access to justice, including literature reviews, data collection, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of reports and presentations. The Coordinator may plan and deliver educational initiatives such as workshops and training sessions for diverse audiences.

Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with faculty and community partners, managing project timelines, maintaining accurate records and documentation, and ensuring clear communication between internal and external stakeholders. The role also involves assisting with grant applications, event organization, and evaluation of program outcomes to inform continuous improvement.

Qualifications





- Interested in access to justice issues and motivated to contribute substantively to research and education work.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and timelines.
- Emotionally intelligent and easy to work with, able to build trust and rapport with ACE team members and across a wide range of stakeholders, colleagues, and collaborators.
- A strong communicator, both written and verbal, able to tailor communication to different audiences –from academic researchers to community organizations to government.
- Experienced in multi-stakeholder project coordination, ideally with projects spanning months to years.
- Comfortable with technology, including updating websites and working confidently across a variety of online platforms for communication, collaboration, and operations management.

The following are helpful

- A law degree, graduate training in a related field, and/or experience working in the justice sector.
- Experience contributing to justice-sector academic or applied research, including literature reviews, research design, and related writing.
- Experience in educational or instructional roles, preferably in an academic and/or professional context.
- Experience contributing to funding or grant applications.
- Experience organizing and facilitating meetings and/or working groups.
- Familiarity with universities and the university research ecosystem (e.g., academic timelines, research funding structures, or institutional processes).
