Position Overview The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement is seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to lead user experience research, service design, interaction design, and user-centered product development initiatives.
The successful candidate will have strong expertise in UX research methodologies, service design, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, design systems, and Figma. The role requires the ability to translate qualitative and quantitative research into actionable design deliverables while collaborating effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional Agile teams.
Experience working with the Ontario Design System, iterative product development cycles, and accessibility standards will be highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Create effective, user-friendly, visually appealing, and intuitive interfaces.
- Design overall product functionality with a strong focus on user experience and usability.
- Apply a user-centered design approach and rapidly test, evaluate, and iterate designs based on user feedback.
- Plan and facilitate UX design research using a variety of research methodologies, including:
- User interviews
- Diary studies
- Usability testing
- Usability metrics
- A/B testing
- Card sorting
- Other appropriate research methods
- Manage end-to-end user research activities, from participant recruitment through research synthesis.
- Synthesize research findings into clear and insightful UX research deliverables.
- Develop user journey maps, personas, service blueprints, affinity maps, and other research artifacts.
- Lead design ideation sessions and develop service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Facilitate the client's product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
- Design interfaces for web and mobile applications and a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Design user interfaces for digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
- Identify design problems and develop effective, user-centered solutions.
- Make strategic UX and design decisions related to core and recent product functions and features.
- Gather and incorporate user feedback to improve existing interfaces.
- Collaborate with developers, QA specialists, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams.
- Work effectively within an Agile, sprint-based development environment.
- Apply iterative product development practices across Discovery, Agile, Beta, and Live phases.
- Communicate design concepts, research findings, and development processes clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive UX documentation, reports, reviews, and assessments.
- Manage competing priorities, meet project deadlines, and maintain effective client relationships.

- Experience working as a UX Designer, Interactive Designer, UI Designer, or similar role.
- Robust experience designing for web and mobile applications.
- Ability to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder/business-user alignment sessions.
- Experience managing end-to-end user research from participant recruitment through synthesis.
- Experience facilitating UX research using multiple methods, including:

- Experience designing and iterating product functionality based on user testing.
- Experience delivering user stories, wireframes, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for multiple devices and interfaces.
- Experience identifying design challenges and developing elegant, user-focused solutions.
- Experience making strategic UX decisions related to existing and new functionality and features.
- Experience gathering user feedback and using insights to improve existing interfaces.
- Experience working in an Agile, sprint-based development environment.

- Knowledge of Digital Service Standards.
- Experience with complex UX/design challenges, particularly involving legacy systems.
- Experience working with nuanced stakeholder and approval relationships.
- Proficiency in designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Experience facilitating UX research using diverse qualitative and quantitative methods.
Prior Public Service / OPS Experience – 5%
- Previous experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or another public-sector environment is considered an asset.
Must-Have Qualifications Candidates should demonstrate strong experience in:
- UX/UI and GUI design.
- Web and mobile application design.
- End-to-end UX research and research synthesis.
- User interviews, diary studies, usability testing, A/B testing, card sorting, and usability metrics.
- User journey maps, personas, service blueprints, affinity maps, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- UX project leadership and design workshop facilitation.
- Figma and other design/prototyping tools.
- Designing with established design systems.
- Ontario Design System or similar design systems.
- Agile and sprint-based development environments.
- Iterative product development across Discovery, Agile, Beta, and Live stages.
