Position Overview The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement is seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to lead user-centered design initiatives, develop intuitive digital experiences, and collaborate with Business, Product, and Development teams to establish effective product and service design visions.
The successful candidate will have strong expertise in UX research, service design, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, interface design, content design, and usability testing. The role requires the ability to simplify complex technical information, understand user needs, and deliver functional, accessible, usable, and aesthetically pleasing experiences.
Experience working with the Ontario Design System, Figma, Canvas, and similar design tools is highly relevant.
Key Responsibilities
- Create effective, user-friendly, visually appealing, functional, and accessible interfaces.
- Design overall product functionality to deliver excellent user experiences.
- Apply a user-centered design approach and rapidly test, evaluate, and iterate designs based on user testing.
- Facilitate UX research using a variety of methodologies, including:
- User interviews
- Diary studies
- Usability testing
- Usability metrics
- A/B testing
- Card sorting
- Lead design ideation sessions and develop:
- Service design blueprints
- Information architecture
- Wireframes
- Mockups
- Interactive prototypes
- Conduct user research, interviews, and surveys and translate findings into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Collaborate with Business, Product, and Development teams to facilitate product and service design vision and concepts.
- Design user interfaces for web, mobile, digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
- Design content that meets user needs and simplifies complex technical language and processes.
- Determine the appropriate information and present it in the right format based on user needs.
- Facilitate product vision through research, conception, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
- Identify design problems and develop effective, user-centered solutions.
- Make strategic UX and design decisions related to core and new functions and features.
- Gather user feedback and use insights to improve existing interfaces.
- Work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
- Communicate design concepts and development processes clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain effective client relationships.

- Skill Set Requirements
General UX/UI Skills – 55%
- Demonstrated experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience as a UX Designer, Interactive Designer, UI Designer, or similar role.
- Strong experience designing for web and mobile applications.
- Ability to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder/business-user alignment sessions.
- Experience managing end-to-end user research from participant recruitment through synthesis.
- Experience facilitating UX research using multiple qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools, including Figma, Canvas, or similar tools.
- Thorough understanding of web development technologies and their limitations and appropriate use.
- Experience designing online programs with consideration for the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Strong experience translating research findings into:
- Sitemaps
- User flows
- User/customer journey maps
- Wireframes
- Mockups
- Prototypes
- Experience designing and iterating product functionality based on user testing.
- Experience developing user stories, wireframes, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Experience facilitating product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
- Experience identifying design problems and developing elegant solutions.
- Experience making strategic design and UX decisions related to existing and new functionality and features.
- Experience gathering user feedback to improve and configure existing interfaces.
- Experience designing content to meet user needs and simplify complex technical information.
- Ability to determine the appropriate information and format based on user needs.
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and maintain client relationships.

- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation, including reports, reviews, and assessments.

- Knowledge of Digital Service Standards.
- Proficiency in designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Experience addressing complex design challenges, particularly those involving legacy systems.
- Experience navigating nuanced stakeholder and approval relationships.
- Knowledge of network security and network protocols.
Prior Public Service / OPS Experience – 5%
- Previous experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or another public-sector environment is considered an asset.
Must-Have Qualifications Candidates should demonstrate strong experience in:
- UX/UI and GUI design.

- UX research and research methodologies.
- Service design and information architecture.
- Wireframes, mockups, user flows, journey maps, and interactive prototypes.
