KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat-resistant alloys and high-nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings, which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual), GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in-house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in-house DT, R&D; lab, as well as hydro testing.
Summary
This position is responsible for safely mixing and reclaiming the various sand mixtures required for production, in accordance with ISO quality standards.
Major Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Work in a safe manner consistent with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and KMC policies and ensure work areas comply with proper housekeeping and safety procedures at all times
- Wear all required PPE as per department and job function requirements
- Operate all equipment and machinery according to established safety rules, SOPs, and at set standard rates
- Maintain full product traceability as per ISO and department standards
- Safely operate and perform minor repairs on all sand system equipment and other relevant machinery to ensure continuous and efficient production, adhering to safety protocols and standard procedures
- Maintain comprehensive records of equipment operation and maintenance activities, including SPC Charts, Reclaimer Log Book, and other related documentation, ensuring accuracy and ease of retrieval for audits and reviews
- Operate the Shell sand mixer and reclaimer with precision to produce consistent, high-quality sand products that meet ISO standards,
adjusting parameters as needed for optimal performance
- Promptly inform the Supervisor of any defective equipment or parts to facilitate immediate repairs and prevent potential breakdowns or safety hazards
- Troubleshoot operational issues by systematically analyzing problems, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain product quality
- Perform various material tests such as tensile strength, melting point, and sieve analysis to verify sand quality and adherence to specifications
- Keep detailed records of all operational data on operator work sheets and by heat numbers if specified, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation for quality control and traceability
- Be proficient in using the shop floor computer system to input and retrieve relevant information

Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education
- Must have working knowledge of sand requirements derived from production experience in the use of the same
- Must have strong mechanical aptitude, including working knowledge of troubleshooting, understanding systems, using tools, and hands-on problem-solving
- Working experience in understanding complex blueprints and mechanical drawings
Working experience with the use of computers and software systems, such as Microsoft and LN, is considered an asset Physical / Psychological Demands & Working Conditions:
- Standing and walking for prolonged periods
- Adherence to safety standards and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
- Manual dexterity for handling small parts and tools
- Lifting and moving equipment/materials (up to 25-50 lbs)
- Visual acuity for reading blueprints and inspecting parts
- Exposure to noise, dust, and fluctuating temperatures (requires PPE)
- High levels of concentration and focus
