The Short of It
We’re looking for a senior marketer with experience leading execution across most core areas of the modern marketing stack (email, content, SEO, paid media, website and/or HubSpot & RevOps), paired with strong client-facing experience and project management skills. This role is ideal for someone who wants to deepen their ability to lead delivery, manage clients, and coordinate teams while driving measurable results. We’re looking for a doer with leadership potential.
Overview
Tired of being the “middle person” between clients and internal teams, with no real ownership over outcomes?
At ProperExpression, our Performance Marketing Strategists are execution leaders, not meeting runners. This role sits at the center of client delivery – translating strategy into action, leading project managers and specialists, and owning the quality, results, and momentum of client work. It’s a senior, client-facing delivery role for marketers who understand how modern marketing works in the real world.
If you enjoy working directly with clients, coordinating complex marketing programs, and holding work to a high bar across channels – we would be delighted to meet you!
About ProperExpression
ProperExpression is a fully-remote boutique growth marketing agency focused on the B2B SaaS and Financial Services industries. We partner with ambitious clients to build predictable, scalable growth engines across channels, including SEO, content, paid media, email, and RevOps.
We are a HubSpot Platinum Partner and have been recognized by Clutch and Excellence.com as a top-performing agency. Despite being a relatively young agency, we’re growing quickly and intentionally, and building the next phase of the firm with people who want real ownership, real impact, and room to grow.
We also laugh a lot, don't take ourselves too seriously and try to make any excuse to eat good food - sharing food experiences has become a bit of an internal culture with life of its own.
The Role (What You’ll Actually Do)
As a Performance Marketing Strategist, you will lead account teams made up of channel specialists (PPC, SEO, creative, copy, web dev etc.) and project managers to deliver results and ROI for our clients.
You will be expected to:
- Collaborate on strategy with the Account Director and own campaign execution
- Translate strategy into action, leading an execution team comprised of channel specialists (PPC, SEO, Email, RevOps, Content Writers, etc.) and a project manager
- Lead day-to-day client delivery and communication
- Roll up your sleeves and build – create and launch campaigns yourself when the account calls for it
- Ensure work is executed at a high standard across channels
- Monitor performance and proactively surface insights, risks, and opportunities
- Be accountable for client results, retention, and delivery quality
Key Objectives Success in this role is based on the following factors, in order of importance:
1. Client retention : Retain clients by consistently delivering value, earning trust, and maintaining momentum.
2. Client results : Drive measurable results through high-quality execution and ongoing optimization.
3. Productivity : Deliver work efficiently by managing scope, team utilization and your own time.
Who This Role Is For This role is ideal for a mid-career agency marketer who:
- Has deep hands-on marketing experience across multiple channels
- Built their depth as a channel specialist (PPC, SEO, email, etc.) before broadening into strategy
- Enjoys managing ongoing client relationships
- Is highly organized and delivery-oriented
- Is comfortable leading client meetings and explaining results
- Can coordinate complex work-streams without micromanagement
- Wants to grow into a Account Director or VP-level role over time
You enjoy being “at the tip of the spear” on accounts – close to the work, close to the client, and accountable for outcomes. Location & Work Setup
- Fully remote
- Must be located in the US or Canada
- Must be willing to work EST hours full-time
Experience
- 6+ years of professional marketing experience
- Proven experience managing ongoing client relationships at a marketing agency
- Experience overseeing multi-channel marketing programs
- Project management experience (formal or informal)
Marketing Stack Experience This role works across 7 marketing areas:
- Email & Marketing Automation
- Content Marketing
- SEO
- Paid Search
- Paid Social (LinkedIn and/or Meta)
- Website Lifecycle
- HubSpot and/or RevOps
Across those 7 areas, you must have:
- Expert-level experience in at least 2 of them (Expert means you have built and launched campaigns in that channel yourself, start to finish, more than once – you know the metrics, the variables behind them, and what to change when they move the wrong way.)
- Intermediate or higher experience in at least 3 of them (Intermediate means you've personally executed real client work in the channel – you can run the day-to-day yourself, even if someone more senior sets the strategy.)
- Familiarity with all 7, with zero experience in no more than 1–2 (Familiarity means you understand how the channel works, its core metrics, and how it fits into an integrated program – you can hold an intelligent conversation about it with a specialist or a client, even if you've never run it yourself.)
You will be expected to:
- Discuss these channels confidently with clients
- Interface intelligently with channel specialists
- Assign work and evaluate quality
- Explain performance and tradeoffs
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive and responsive
- Strong written and verbal communicator
- Problem-solver with a “figure it out” mentality
- Comfortable managing ambiguity
- Resilient and determined
- Motivated to challenge themselves and continuously learn
You're Probably a Fit If
- You started as a channel specialist (PPC, SEO, email) and grew into strategy – you can still build what you now oversee
- If we handed you a Google Ads, SEO, or HubSpot account tomorrow with no other hands on it, you could build and launch a campaign start to finish – and you've done it solo more than once
- You know the metrics behind every channel you claim, and the variables behind the metrics – you can go two levels deep without a specialist in the room
- You enjoy owning client relationships and explaining performance in business language
- You've worked at an agency pace, juggling multiple accounts without dropping quality
You're Probably Not a Fit If
- You've only ever managed a channel through other people – at large agencies that's common, and it's the one pattern this role can't absorb
- You can talk strategy fluently but haven't personally built a campaign in years
- When a metric moves the wrong way, your first move is assigning someone to look into it
- You prefer coordinating experts over being one
- You need a specialist on the account before you can answer a client's technical question
Benefits
- Health Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- 401K
- PTO
- Annual Retreat (last year we went to Cancun!)
- Fully work from home environment
