Role Description The Senior Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Surrey, BC.
This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns, financial statements, and working papers for a range of small to medium-sized businesses and individual clients.
Day-to-day tasks include managing full-cycle accounting engagements, performing compilations and reviews and assisting with audits. The Senior Accountant will also provide business advisory support, identify tax planning opportunities, respond to client inquiries, and communicate complex financial information in a clear, professional manner.
In addition, this role may mentor junior team members, contribute to process improvements, and support the firm’s commitment to exceptional client service.
Qualifications
- Strong technical accounting skills, including full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation, and working paper documentation.
- Proficiency in corporate and personal taxation, including tax return preparation, tax planning, and compliance with Canadian tax laws.
- CPA designation in good standing and Canadian public practice experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, professional standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to small and medium-sized businesses.
- Experience with assurance and related services, such as compilations, reviews, audits, and not-for-profit reporting.
- Solid bookkeeping and general ledger skills, including reconciliations, payroll, and handling small to medium-sized business accounts.
- Comfort with accounting and tax software, spreadsheets, and other digital tools commonly used in public practice.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial and tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, mentor junior staff, and build positive, long-term client relationships.
