Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I;) Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I;) Engineer to join our Carbon Upcycling Project Delivery team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the design, engineering, automation, electrical systems, instrumentation, construction support, commissioning, and startup of industrial facilities.

This role is ideal for professionals with extensive experience in power systems, process instrumentation, PLC/SCADA automation, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, control systems, and plant commissioning within industries such as cement, mining, power generation, oil & gas, chemicals, manufacturing, and heavy industrial facilities. This is a Hybrid Role.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineering

- Design and review LV and MV electrical distribution systems.

- Develop and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), load lists, cable schedules, and power system studies.

- Specify and evaluate transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, motors, and protection systems.

- Participate in electrical equipment FAT, SAT, testing, and commissioning.

- Review grounding, bonding, and lightning protection systems.

- Ensure compliance with CSA, IEC, IEEE, CEC/NEC, NFPA, and applicable industry standards.

Instrumentation Engineering

- Develop specifications and datasheets for pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical, and vibration instruments.

- Prepare and review instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop drawings, hook-up diagrams, and cable schedules.

- Support instrument selection, installation, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.





- Review control valve sizing, actuator selection, and process measurement applications.

Automation & Control Systems

- Design, review, and commission PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMI systems.

- Develop and review control philosophies, interlocks, permissives, alarm management, and shutdown systems.

- Support industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, and fiber optic systems.

- Troubleshoot automation, networking, and control system issues.

Project & Construction Support

- Prepare engineering deliverables, technical specifications, calculations, and procurement packages.

- Conduct technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews.

- Support construction activities, field engineering, RFIs, inspections, and contractor coordination.

- Participate in project planning, risk assessment, and multidisciplinary design reviews.

Commissioning & Startup

- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.

- Perform loop checks, functional tests, MCC and VFD commissioning, PLC/SCADA testing, and protection relay verification.

- Support plant startup, process optimization, and operational readiness activities.

- Develop commissioning procedures, test records, and turnover documentation.

Reliability & Troubleshooting





- Investigate electrical and instrumentation failures.

- Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.

- Support plant reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Provide technical expertise during operational issues and shutdowns.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related discipline.

- Technical Proficiency: 12+ years of experience with instrumentation, control and automation systems, including programming PLCs, troubleshooting, and commissioning.

- Collaborative Success: Proven track record of working effectively with EPCM contractors, suppliers, union labour, regulatory agencies, and owner’s teams.

- Equipment Familiarity: Experience with rotating equipment, material conveying systems, and hydraulic & lubrication systems.

- Leadership Skills: Robust project management capabilities, including prioritization, delegation, and driving projects to completion as well as 25% travel flexibility is required for this role.
