Construction AI Startup · Toronto, Canada
· In-person
About Us
We're solving one of the largest problems in the physical world: public infrastructure that's too slow and too expensive to build. Construction is a $17 trillion global industry, and it runs on human expertise that doesn't scale, so we're building the AI that understands what to build and how to build it.
We start with the costliest problems general contractors face: the multi-million-dollar bidding and estimating decisions that off-the-shelf AI tools can't touch. Tyce is already live in production with industry landmark general contractors, estimating costs on multi-million-dollar builds and helping them win more bids.
We're building a product engineering team we believe can run a company worth a billion dollars. Competitive salary and equity.
Role Overview
This is a Design Engineering role. You'll own the surface our users live in every day: the Tyce Workspace and document editors. This is the most differentiated and important part of our product, and it's yours to make world-class.
We're on a modern, lean stack: React Router, TypeScript, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Pydantic-AI, Logfire, AWS.
What You'll Do
- Build our rich-text editor experience: complex editing, AI-native writing, comments, real-time collaboration. We won #1 Product of the Day on Product Hunt for this experience. Rethink PDF, Word, and Excel editing and generation, now with the power of AI.
- Turn hard UX problems into interfaces that feel effortless, grounded in real customer usage.
- Build and evolve Tyce’s product platform,
accelerating development across multiple product lines and features.
- Work full-stack when needed (Node or Python / FastAPI / PostgreSQL).
- Ship features day-to-day and make real product decisions.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with product, design, and customer success to ship and support integrations with real users.
What You Have
- Minimum 3 years of engineering experience (previous Senior, Principal, Staff Engineer roles)
- Expert in React and TypeScript; comfortable in Python.
- Have built and shipped complex, interactive frontends and maintained them in production.
- Strong product sense and UI/UX instincts: you notice the details and have the urge to improve them.
- A go-getter mindset: personal agency, fast learning, strong verbal and written communication.
Nice to Have
- Having any of these is a strong plus - tell us your powerpower:
- Built a real editor before (DOCX or PDF: Tiptap/Prosemirror, Nutrient), especially with collaboration / CRDTs.
- Design-engineering chops — you can go from Figma to pixel-perfect, or design it yourself.
- Built B2B apps with auth, org structure, and integrations.
- Competitive programming background (e.g., ACM ICPC).
What We Offer
- Competitive salary plus meaningful equity in an early-stage company.
- A founding-level seat on a 10-person product engineering team with direct influence over architecture and product direction.
- A close-knit and collaborative early-stage startup setting where every voice is heard and every opinion matters
- Learning & Growth stipend
