Ottawa
Senior Full Stack Engineer, Robotic Infrastructure
InDro Robotics, Ottawa ON (Area X.O). Full-time, permanent, in office.
About the Job
InDro Robotics is expanding our team in response to the growing demand for our research and development in drone and robotics technologies. This role is critical in supporting the advancement of ongoing projects aimed to meet the unique applications brought forward by customers from all types of industries and verticals.
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer you'll be an instrumental member of our team building the software infrastructure behind our air and ground robotics: the applications, services, and data systems our robots run through, providing guidance on how our tech stack and processes should scale, and tackling some of our most technically challenging initiatives. This means continually creating and implementing new software for a variety of applications, all with an emphasis on pushing boundaries with best-in-class quality outputs. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to improve overall capabilities, selecting the best research and industry technologies to employ, and developing high-performance implementations.
You will work closely with industry, academia, and business leaders where you'll gain a deep understanding of the problem they are looking to solve and make a real difference in the advancement of ground and air robotics.
About the Company
INVENT. ENHANCE. DEPLOY. InDro Robotics, founded in 2014, is a rapidly growing tech company with a dedication to advancing the robotics industry. With our technical office at the well-known Area
X.O site in Ottawa, our team is empowered to develop, test, harden, and demo in a technology-rich,
secure R&D; facility. Engineering and operations are dedicated to innovation in autonomous robots and drones.
About the Team
We are a team of tech enthusiasts who are passionate about expanding boundaries for ground and air robotics, experiencing our work in direct application, and learning from each other every step of the way.
About You
You will enjoy a career at InDro Robotics if you have a passion for developing user-friendly and visually appealing applications and a proven track record of delivering high-quality work. Most of your time will be spent on the application and service layers; the rest reaches into the edge compute and networking that connect our robots to them. A robotics background is not required, but curiosity about what sits at the other end of the connection is.
This role is for you if you thrive in cross-functional environments, collaborating with individuals across many disciplines to deliver the best solutions possible. You have a strong sense of ownership and can drive projects through to completion. With our core in R&D;, you will always be tasked to create the uncreated, again and again.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement performant backend endpoints and high-quality frontend components for our operator-facing applications.
- Build server-side services and ingest pipelines moving imagery and sensor data into cloud storage and processing, preserving timing and spatial metadata.
- Design and maintain data models for mission history, asset tracking, and automated reconciliation against customer systems of record.
- Develop customer-centric prototypes for new product explorations and productionize the ones that advance.
- Build and maintain the integration layer between our application stack and the robotics middleware,
exposing state, transforms, and live media.
- Deploy services to cloud infrastructure and edge compute, and own the release automation for both.
- Design and troubleshoot the network paths between edge devices, ground infrastructure, and cloud services, including behaviour under intermittent or bandwidth-limited connectivity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues spanning the application,
the transport, and the edge device.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years designing and developing web applications, front end through back end.
- Front-end proficiency: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and a modern framework (React, Angular, or
Vue.js).
- Server-side proficiency: Node.js, Python, or Java. RESTful API design and versioning.
- Databases: SQL. Schema design, indexing, query performance work.
- Real-time and streaming: persistent connections, event-driven state, live media, and reconnection handling.
- Networking in practice: routing and addressing across subnets, VPNs and tunnelling, firewalls and
NAT traversal, TLS, and packet capture for diagnosis.
- Cloud platforms (AWS or Azure): object storage, compute, queueing.
- Docker in production, including multi-architecture images built for ARM targets. Kubernetes or comparable orchestration is desirable.
- Strong Linux proficiency, including embedded Linux on edge hardware (Jetson or comparable ARM
SoC): headless administration, service management, remote deployment.
ROS experience is a significant asset. If you do not have it, we expect you to be productive in it early;
we will teach you our ecosystem, not the fundamentals.
Assets
- Robotics middleware, autonomy stacks, or flight and drive control software.
- Camera and sensor pipelines: capture, encoding, transport.
- Wireless and cellular connectivity for mobile or remote devices: LTE/5G modems, mesh or point-to-point radio links, fleet-scale remote access.
- Interfaces that render spatial data: maps, 3D scenes, live overlays.
- Field time with deployed robotic systems.
