Specials Design Support Service Representative Department: GRD, Production Support Service GroupLocation: 638 Raleigh St., in-personReports To: Production Support Service Manager, GRD The Specials Design Support Service Representative is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective design and drafting support for Specials projects. The position works closely with Production, Sales, Estimating, Applications Engineering, Quality and other internal teams to develop manufacturing details, submittal drawings, design packages and other documentation required to successfully manufacture and support customer projects.

The position requires the ability to interpret customer and project requirements, develop practical and manufacturable design solutions, identify potential design or manufacturing issues, and provide timely technical support to internal and external stakeholders when required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established quality, productivity and delivery expectations.

Key Results and Expectations Produce accurate, complete and manufacturable design and drafting packages in a timely manner.

Provide prompt and professional design support to Production and other internal departments.

Meet established departmental expectations for quality, productivity, timeliness and customer service.

Review project requirements and identify potential design, manufacturing or documentation issues before work reaches Production.

Ensure submittals, manufacturing details and design packages meet applicable company standards, procedures and customer requirements.

Effectively communicate project status, delays, technical issues and potential concerns to the Team Leader and appropriate stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with team members and cross-functional departments to resolve design and manufacturing issues.

Take ownership of assigned work while recognizing when issues require escalation or additional technical support.

Perform design and documentation reviews of other team members' work as directed by the Team Leader.





Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes, manufacturing methods, documentation and team workflows.

Maintain a professional, cooperative and customer-focused approach when working with internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities Create, modify and maintain 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models using applicable design software.

Process and compile manufacturing detail packages for Specials projects.

Process and compile submittal drawings and design packages.

Interpret customer requirements, specifications, drawings and other project documentation to develop appropriate design solutions.

Review designs and drawings for accuracy, completeness, functionality and manufacturability.

Provide design and technical support to Production relating to manufacturing issues, drawing discrepancies and design inquiries.

Work with Production to investigate and resolve design-related manufacturing issues.

Provide input regarding project feasibility, manufacturability and potential design concerns to Estimating and Applications Engineering.

Communicate with Sales, Account Managers, Representatives and customers when required to clarify project requirements and assist with the resolution or routing of design-related requests.

Provide Field Quality Report assistance to Quality when required.

Review incoming design requests and determine the appropriate action, including completing the request directly or coordinating with another department or external resource.

Identify incomplete, conflicting or unclear project information and obtain clarification from the appropriate source.

Communicate project delays, priorities, technical concerns and other issues to the Team Leader in a timely manner.

Perform peer reviews and verification of design work as directed by the Team Leader.





Follow established design standards, procedures, work instructions and quality requirements.

Maintain accurate project documentation and records.

Participate in process improvement and problem-solving initiatives within the Design team.

Assist with the development and maintenance of design resources, standards and documentation as required.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience Required Minimum Grade 12 education.

Post-secondary education in drafting, design, engineering technology or a related discipline is preferred.

Formal training or education in AutoCAD, SolidEdge or comparable CAD software is preferred.

Minimum 1 year of experience in manufacturing, drafting, design or related technical workplace.

Previous experience working with sheet metal, fabricated products or other manufacturing processes is considered an asset.

Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation is preferred.

Skills and Abilities Required Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering and manufacturing drawings.

Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD design principles.

Strong understanding of design for manufacturability and practical manufacturing considerations.

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Ability to identify design issues and develop practical solutions.

High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical individuals.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively within a team environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability and willingness to learn new software, processes, products and manufacturing methods.

Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, Sales, Estimating and other cross-functional teams.

Strong commitment to quality, customer service and continuous improvement.
