Campus/Location: This is an in-person (on-campus) roles that take place at the North campus locations, with occasional work at the Carrier and Lakeshore campus locations.

Salary Range: $41.20 - $47.57

Starting Salary: $41.20

Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

- Accessible Learning Services), Student Wellness, Careers, Athletics and Recreation, and more. SSE aims to cultivate curiosity, resilience, confidence, and reflection in our learners, so that Humber students can thrive both within their academic pursuits and beyond.

About The STEM Learning Specialist Role The Specialist, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Learning, creates and supports student learning initiatives within Student Learning Services (SLS), and the Math and Writing Centres (M&WC;), with a specific focus on STEM programs. The incumbent collaborates closely with faculty partners to ensure academic learning support programs are created and maintained, which effectively support learners in STEM programs, particularly programs that consist of engineering, calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, statistics, chemistry and physics. Close collaboration is also required between the incumbent and SLS and M&WC; team members, to develop programs, supports and services, at the direction of the Manager, which reduce barriers to equity deserving learners, meet learners’ academic needs, and meet faculty expectations.

The incumbent will be a curriculum specialist in STEM, possessing a graduate degree in this field of study.



The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Learning Services Coordinators for all processes in the recruitment, hiring and training of student staff. They will provide ongoing training and assessment, along with coaching and feedback to allow student staff to improve, grow and evolve in their roles.

The incumbent will have a strong understanding of student learning theory, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), along with student development theory. The incumbent will review leading practice, monitor the creation of new academic services and programs, collect data, and research industry leading certifications and standards to ensure approaches, programs and techniques are best positioned to meet learner needs. The Specialist will work closely with faculty, Program Coordinators and Associate Deans to ensure supports for learners (resources, materials, course content, curriculum, etc.) are current and accurate.

The incumbent will need to be aware, adaptable and responsive in understanding learner, faculty and collaborator (ie. IGNITE, Advising, Library Services, etc.) needs, and then be able to meet those learning needs proactively and effectively.

The incumbent will be responsible for the Assessment and Marketing of STEM and related programming within M&WC; and SLS. This will require the planning and development of a marketing strategy to reach and communicate to learners and faculty: to explain our services and their benefits and ensure that these facts are widely known (using social media, reoccurring advertising, traditional approaches, etc.). Qualitative (satisfaction, suggestions, etc.) and quantitative (GPA, persistence, engagement, participation rates, etc.) assessment will be ongoing throughout the year, providing evidence of programmatic impact, which can then be used in communications, inform practice and demonstrate the importance of STEM, SLS and MWC related support services.

Education

- - Post graduate degree (e.g. Masters) or equivalent
- - Master’s degree in engineering preferred
- Masters degree in Mathematics or equivalent with courses in Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discreet Math, Differential Equations will be considered an asset

Additional Requirements

- The incumbent will have a certificate in Supplemental Instruction. As a guideline, this certification will be obtained by completing a course(s) of a total of 100 hours or less.

Experience/Skills

- Minimum of one (1) year experience working with students registered with Accessible Learning Services.
- Minimum of three (3) years practical experience:
- Teaching/creating college-level courses which could include: general math, science, engineering, etc.




- Teaching experience in courses at the college level or higher.
- Tutoring experience (Post-secondary Math/Writing Centre preferred)
- Experience using advanced computer skills; databases, software programs, SPSS, etc.
- Experience in a Post-Secondary Educational (PSE) institution, working with PSE students.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and demonstrating confidence and good judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to take responsibility and exercise initiative.
- Organizational, communication, assessment and team building skills.
- Experience mentoring students while demonstrating a strong commitment to student success.
- Experience coordinating staff – scheduling, training, coaching, etc.
- Knowledge in creating learning outcomes and program goals and assessing those metrics for effectiveness and results.
