About Us

About the 39 Country Initiative was founded in 2010 by Prof. Paul Beamish, the 39 Country Initiative is housed at the Ivey Business School. The intiiate supports universities in the world's poorest 47 countries, as defined by a per capita income of less that $ 2,000 USD annually. It leverages Ivey Publishing's vast collection of cases and teaching material and has a global network of schools supporting its key activities.

Responsibilities

39 Country Initiative is seeking highly motivated students to support a targeted outreach initiative in Nigeria as part of their mission. Nigeria, with a population of approximately 238 million and over 300 universities, represents a significant opportunity to expand access to case-based learning. The 39 Country Initiative provides free access to Ivey Publishing teaching content for university faculty in the 47 countries to use with their students. Working collaboratively, students will focus on identifying, researching, and engaging business and management programs across Nigerian higher education institutions to increase adoption of Ivey cases. The Summer Student - Nigeria Outreach will take guidance from Prof. Paul Beamish and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Ivey community. This project has the potential to significantly expand access to case-based learning in Nigeria, potentially reaching hundreds of institutions and thousands of professors. Ultimately, this initiative could impact up to one million students annually through increased adoption of Ivey cases.

Qualifications

Institutional Research & Data Collection

- Identify and compile a comprehensive list of Nigerian universities offering business or management programs
- Conduct in-depth research to locate faculty and leadership contacts (e.g., Deans, Program Heads)




- Navigate challenging or incomplete institutional websites to extract accurate information
- Maintain organized records of institutions and contacts in a structured database

Outreach & Engagement
- Initiate contact with leadership at targeted institutions via email
- Clearly communicate the value of Ivey Publishing and free access opportunities
- Conduct follow-up communications where necessary

Relationship Management
- Respond to inquiries from institutional representatives and faculty
- Guide interested contacts through registration processes for Ivey Publishing
- Manage ongoing email correspondence involving multiple follow-ups

Project Execution
- Collaborate as a team to maximize efficiency by focusing on a single country
- Follow established outreach protocols and research methodologies
- Contribute to achieving engagement targets (approximately 250 institutions)

Expected Outcomes
- Identification and outreach to approximately 250 institutions
- Conversion of a significant portion of institutions to register for Ivey case access
- Contribution to a potential network of thousands of faculty using case-based teaching methods in Nigeria

Education:
- Must be a student returning to studies in the fall with interest in international education, business, or development initiatives

Experience:
- Strong research and analytical skills, with ability to locate hard-to-find information

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Excellent written communication skills (professional email writing required)
- High level of persistence, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
- Ability to manage repetitive tasks and long-term follow-ups
- Comfortable working with large datasets (Excel or similar tools)
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a small team
- Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation




- Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
- Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
- Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western's policies and procedures
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
