Job Overview

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated support workers to provide in-home, high-quality care and friendship to a 21-year old male with complex needs. This position is 2:1 care, meaning you will always be working as one of two caregivers.

T is an adventurous, funny, loving guy who keeps us on our toes. T’s diagnoses include a genetic disorder called GRIN2A, dystonia, epilepsy, a condition called Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity (PSH) and autism. T is also nonverbal but communicates in many different ways and understands a lot.

Although a big part of this role involves tasks related to caregiving such as delivering personal care, one of the things we value most is your relationship with T. Think of yourself as a paid best friend - we are seeking individuals who are going to take the time to get to know T and establish a strong connection with him.

Responsibilities

- Assist and deliver personal care and other daily activities (including but not limited to; toileting, bathing, dressing, medication administration and feeding).
- Assist with mobility (such as lifts and transfers).
- Accompanying T out in the community for a range of different activities such as going for walks (outdoors, malls), going out to eat, going to the movies,



swimming, going for drives, etc. Always be looking for recent and exciting activities to introduce to T to enrich his life.
- Manage and provide support when challenging behaviours arise.
- Provide friendship and emotional support to T, engage in meaningful conversations and activities.
- Follow any and all care/behavioural plans accurately and consistently.

Requirements

- Experience providing support in-home is an asset but not mandatory
- Experience/knowledge of autism and working with people with disabilities and complex medical needs is advantageous.
- Experience with managing challenging behaviors - including self harm and physical aggression towards others
- Ability to work as part of a team - share ideas, receive feedback and collaborate effectively.
- Someone who is intuitive and thinks outside of the box.
- Flexibility to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and overnights. Someone who can be available short notice is preferred.
- Must be reliable, responsible and committed to providing quality care.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
