About Novastorms AI

We build In-House Insights, a privacy-first, AI-powered data analysis platform. Organizations in banking, healthcare, legal, insurance, and the public sector use it to ask questions of their own data in plain language with all analysis running locally on their own machines so sensitive data never leaves their control.

The Role

You will be our first dedicated design hire, owning user experience across the desktop application and our three administration portals, as well as the design face of the company: our website, our social media presence, and the video demos that show the product to the world. You will work directly with the founding team and our software engineer, and your work will ship: findings from your usability reviews and testing rounds feed straight into the engineering backlog, and the design system you build becomes the foundation for everything that follows.

What You Will Do

- Conduct a structured usability review of the desktop application and the administration portals
- Build and maintain a unified design system (design tokens, component patterns, interaction standards)
- Redesign the platform first-run and onboarding experience
- Improve information design for dashboards, reports, and monitoring screens, including error states and recovery paths
- Review and refine the interface across our platforms




- Design the website UI and create UI assets and content for the website and our social media channels in Figma
- Produce video demos of the product and new features for the website, social channels, and client onboarding

What We Are Looking For

- 3+ years of UI/UX or product design experience on shipped software products, with a portfolio that shows your work.
- Experience planning and running usability tests and turning observations into design decisions
- Strong, demonstrated Figma skills (components, auto layout, prototyping, and asset production) and comfort designing within real engineering constraints, working directly with developers
- Ability to plan, record, and edit polished product demo videos (screen recording plus editing)
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards, ideally WCAG 2.1
- Clear written communication and the self-direction to thrive in a small, fast-moving team

Nice to Have

- Design system experience, especially on Tailwind-based products
- Data visualization or dashboard design experience (B2B or analytics products)
- Experience with multi-language products. French is an asset.

Compensation and Details

CAD $37 per hour at 20 hours per week (part time)

Flexible schedule; hybrid within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Term position through March 31, 2027, with strong potential for extension as the product grows.

Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada
