Position Summary

The Controller will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls across multiple business divisions. This role requires a strong understanding of inventory-based businesses, cost accounting, and multi-location operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial workplace.

Core Areas of Accountability

Financial Management & Reporting

- Oversee the full day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations)
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance across all divisions
- Provide strategic financial analysis to ownership and management
- Coordinate with auditors and external accountants, banks and government agencies
- Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Oversee inventory accounting and manufacturing cost analysis
- Analyze product costing, margins, and operational KPIs
- Review inventory adjustments and consumables allocations
- Ensure inventory transactions are posted to the correct GL accounts
- Support annual inventory counts and inventory management activities
- Work closely with Purchasing to optimize inventory levels and reduce excess stock

Payroll, Tax & Compliance

- Review payroll and payroll reconciliations
- Oversee T4 preparation and year-end payroll reporting
- Approve and ensure accurate filings of statutory remittances (CPP, EI, Income Tax, EHT, WSIB, HST)




- Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
- Leadership & Operations
- Provide leadership and oversight to the accounting team and Office Manager, ensuring efficient financial and administrative operations.
- Approve payments, invoices, payroll, wire transfers, and cash releases
- Review company expenses and financial controls
- Support customer credit limit decisions
- Oversee invoicing processes alongside Office Manager
- Systems & Process Management
- Administer the Spire Accounting System
- Set up users, profiles, warehouses, locations, and new companies
- Create and maintain GL structures
- Customize processes and system workflows
- Provide accounting data and reporting to external accountants

Qualifications

- CPA designation preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience
- Strong expertise in inventory and cost accounting, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Manufacturing and wholesale experience is strongly preferred
- Multi-location or multi-entity experience
- Advanced Excel and accounting systems knowledge
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills

This is a full-time, in-office position located in Vaughan, Ontario. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site five days per week and collaborate closely with the accounting teams.

Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
