SCHOOL BUS MECHANIC - RED SEALThe Transportation Section is part of the Secretary-Treasurer’s Department and is responsible for the secure and reliable operation of 100 Division-owned school buses, including routing, scheduling, bus maintenance, and the recruitment, monitoring performance and training of all bus drivers, in accordance with the Division Policy and the Public Schools Act.Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation, the Red Seal Bus Mechanic is responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of Winnipeg School Division buses. The mechanic will perform mechanical duties as required to ensure all vehicles are maintained in a safe mechanical condition.Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Under general supervision, work in the shop and on the road in the case of bus breakdownsPerform repairs, preventative maintenance services and inspections on buses and equipmentRepairing, rebuilding, remodelling, assembling, installing, welding, diagnosing and overhauling of school busesPerforming preventative maintenance and repair in accordance with regulations governing the Province of Manitoba including but not limited to: o electrical diagnostic/repair, welding, glass replacement, major and minor component repair/replacement, engine tuning, tire repair, road tests, vehicle safety inspection certifications and stickers, grease jobs and oil changesReview and complete repairs identified in bus inspection reportsPerform diagnosis of engine, brake,



electrical components of buses and identify parts for repairs and maintenanceAttendance at in-services and workshops provided by Winnipeg School Division and Department of Education as requiredQualifications:Valid certification as Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Truck Mechanic from an accredited apprenticeship programMinimum of three years of related experienceProficient in diagnosing, servicing and repairing mechanical and electrical problemsVehicle Inspection experience and certification as a School Bus Inspector is preferredPersonally owned hand tools are also requiredProficiency in the application and use of diagnostic engine, ABS brake, automatic transmission and dashboard diagnostic software an assetValid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License is requiredKnowledgeable in basic Microsoft computer skills including email and outlookExcellent time management and organizational skillsProven teamwork and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staffEmployment is subject to a clear Child Abuse Registry check and Police Information CheckWinnipeg School Division has an Employment Equity policy which strives toward a fair representation of women, Indigenous peoples, persons living with a disability and minorities at all levels within the organization.Winnipeg School Division will provide reasonable accommodations to applicants disabled by barriers during the interview and assessment process, upon request.About Winnipeg School DivisionWinnipeg School Division (WSD) nurtures a welcoming and inclusive culture of people committed to working together to inspire students to reach goals and achieve academic success.
