Location: Truro, NS and surrounding area
Position: HIPPY Home Visitor
Position Status: Part-Time, Seasonal (up to 20 hours per week)
Compensation: $21.53 per hour
Start Date: Immediately

About the Program

The HIPPY program supports newcomer families by introducinga structured, parent-led preschool curriculum designed to prepare children forschool success. Through weekly home visits and group meetings, Home Visitorsempower parents with the skills and confidence to guide their child’s earlylearning and development.

In this role, you will:





- Deliverthe HIPPY curriculum to participating families
- Recruiteligible newcomer families into the program
- Conductweekly home visits (including make-up visits when required) usingrole-play activities
- Supportthe planning and facilitation of parent group meetings
- Participatein weekly in-service training and staff development activities
- Keepthe HIPPY Coordinator informed of child/family progress and emergingconcerns
- Completeand submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner
- Participatein sponsored HIPPY activities (field trips, graduations, etc.)
- Supportrecord-keeping systems and complete data entry related to programoperations

Education and Skills Qualifications:

- Newcomerto Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada
- Parentof a three-, four-, or five-year-old child (preferred)
- Residentof the targeted community
- Functionaloral and written communication skills, including solid reading ability
- Proficiencyin Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)
- Strongtime management and organizational skills
- Knowledgeof the newcomer settlement process
- Familiaritywith community programs and services that support families
- Abilityto work independently and collaboratively
- Experienceworking in cross-cultural environments




- Experiencein outreach work
- Demonstrateddiscretion and sound judgment when handling confidential information
- Flexibilityto work outside regular business hours when required
- ValidNova Scotia Driver’s License and reliable vehicle (essential)

All successful candidates must provide a Criminal RecordCheck, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Register Check (dated within 6months), if 18 years of age or older. Background checks are reviewedindividually and assessed in relation to the role and Child Safeguardingrequirements.
