Position Summary

Northern Health is seeking locum physicians to work in the Wrinch Medical Clinic and Wrinch Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in Hazelton, British Columbia. Locums have the option of covering clinic, and/or ER.

Day shifts are 0800 – patients). Night shifts: 1800 – 0800 (5-10 patients). Estimated compensation for two‑week locum with call: $29,000. Inclusive of MOCAP: $1,500 - $2,000 (5-6 ER shifts 0800‑1800 or 1800‑0800) and REEF incentive: $5,000.

The Wrinch Medical Staff provides full‑scope care to the region and is made up of 10 family physicians currently filling 5.3 FTE, 2 GP‑anesthetists, 3 nurse practitioners, and 3 registered midwives who have an incredibly team-oriented model of care.

The selected candidate for this position will be paired with an existing provider to ensure a smooth onboarding experience. Most clinicians do frequent outreach clinics to many of the surrounding Indigenous communities (Sik-e-dakh,



Anxpayawx, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Gitanyow) at the on‑reserve Health Stations.

Learners can participate based on their interest in these relationship‑based clinic models. Working in Hazelton provides an opportunity to be deeply engaged with and improve skills in patient‑centered care, navigating complex ethical situations, and advocacy for access for rural/remote and marginalized patients. Learners are encouraged to examine their role in a health system with a complex relationship to the historical and ongoing violence of settler colonialism.
