Creative, engaging nanny/family assistant needed for Lynn Valley family

Schedule: Part-time, 4 afternoons per week (16 guaranteed hours)

Start Date: September 8, 2026, with the option to start the week of August 31

After five years with their previous nanny, this Lynn Valley family is looking for a nanny/family assistant to build another strong, lasting relationship with their children.

The role combines one-on-one after-school time with their 6-year-old daughter and family assistant responsibilities that help the household run smoothly.

Their 6-year-old daughter is creative, affectionate, imaginative, and can initially be reserved. She loves art, music, dancing, swimming, baking, books and exploring the library. Afternoons begin with school pick-up, followed by time at Lynn Valley Village, the park or library, a bike ride, or something crafty at home.

Their 3-year-old son joins later in the afternoon around 5:15 pm. He is upbeat and easygoing, and happily joins in with his sister and the nanny for reading, playing board games and cards, or time outside at Kilmer Park or in the backyard. Both children have strong imaginations and can stay immersed in their own play either together or side by side.

The family makes the most of life in North Vancouver, with weekends spent hiking, biking, skiing, camping, skating, and visiting local parks. They love the sense of community in Lynn Valley, where time at the park can mean running into neighbours and friends.

The parents have a warm, positive approach to raising their children, using redirection, positive reinforcement, patience, and clear boundaries.

They make room for big feelings and help the children work through them with kindness, while also expecting them to show kindness and patience toward others. They would love a nanny who feels comfortable offering both affection and guidance, and can respond to each child's needs in the moment.

The ideal nanny is creative and enjoys following a child's interests without feeling responsible for entertaining them every moment. They build on those interests with ideas for outings and activities, while also noticing when a child needs connection, quiet time, or space to play independently. Open communication matters to this family, with their previous nanny relationship built on asking questions, talking openly about what was and wasn’t working, and trusting each other’s judgment.

The balance between childcare and family assistant responsibilities will vary throughout the year. September through March, their daughter’s extracurricular schedule leaves one afternoon primarily for household support. Family assistant responsibilities include preparing a couple of family dinners, folding and putting away clean laundry, emptying the dishwasher, vacuuming, and general tidying. After March,

meal preparation and laundry can be incorporated into afternoons with their daughter, who may choose to help, work on a craft nearby, or enjoy some independent quiet time. The priority is maintaining a comfortable baseline at home and getting ahead on the things that make the family’s evenings easier.

This is an opportunity for a warm, communicative nanny to build a lasting relationship with the children and join a family that puts connection and quality time first.

Qualifications

- 2+ years of recent professional childcare/nanny experience with references
- Comfortable with family assistant responsibilities
- CPR & First Aid Certified (or willingness to obtain)
- Explicit background check
- Authorized to work in Canada
- Valid driver’s licence preferred

This is a part-time position guaranteeing 16 hours per week across four weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:45 pm to 6:45 pm. Additional hours are needed on scheduled early dismissal days, with optional additional hours on Pro-D days. Summer hours can remain part time or increase depending on the nanny’s preference.

Compensation

The family is offering $30-$35/hour with 16 guaranteed hours per week, which equates to an anticipated annual income of $24,960-$29,120/year. This position is paid legally on a T4, subject to regular deductions and withholdings as required by law.

Paid statutory holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation pay in accordance with BC Employment Standards.

September 8, 2026, or the week of August 31 if preferred.
